in a guest house in Abersoch after taking a sneak preview of the Fletcher 19 gts... She's HUGE compared to the Bayliner. I'm a tad concerned about getting her home over the lumpy stuff (mountains)... Anyone know a good route to tow a boat back from this area to the midlands? Porthmadog - Dolgelieu - Welshpool - Shrewsbury then pick up the motorways? Cheers Gary

I used to go to Abersoch as a teenager from Manchester and later used to travel from Stoke on Trent. To go the "overland" route was hard work driving a big Volvo Automatic and it was much easier to drive round the coastal route through Caernarfon , Banger and along the A55 coast road which is a fast dual carriageway.

From AA routeplanner your route is 217 miles and thy say it takes 4hrs 31minutes.

If you go to Pwllheli, then on A499 , then A487 to Caernarfon, then to Bangor. from there you are on a fast dual carriageway (A55) and then motorways, M56 and M6. AA gives that as 253 miles and 4hrs 45mins.

Given these times are for a car and not towing a boat I would expect overland to take you perhaps 6/7h (nearer 7) hours of hard, gearchanging/brakeing driving. I would expect the coastal route to take 5/6 hours.

I am used to towing boats/caravans/big trailers and there is no question I would go the coastal route.

Good luck. Paul

cheers guys, much appreciated... Coastal route sounds favorite, Tom Tom took me over the mountains on the way here... Nightmare in the rain and wind
