Urban myth or??????????

It may be true that life forms such as barnacles cannot survive in fresh water...but not can they put the water.....but we all know how difficult they are to remove in winter storage ashore...long after they are dead.

I was in the Crinan canal for the best part of ten years and didn't antifoul during that time .. midweek in fresh water and salt at weekends kept the hull clean as a whistle.

I can confirm that the Crinan still provides great antifoul properties. :)

I only lift once every three or so years to replace an anode and slap on a token single layer of cheap antifoul. Never needed to pressure wash the underside.

We took Temptress up a river in Malaysia. All of the salt water growth died and fell off after a week or so. I dived on the boat to clear the log amd was surprised how clean the Hull was. 2 weeks back in seawater and you could see the fouling again.

Heybridge Basin usually, sometimes the Norfolk rivers. St Kat’s is brackish I think.

A stay in St Kats during the summer 2003 heatwave appeared to remove all the fouling leaving a brightly coloured antifouling paint visible. Sadly subsequent visits didn't produce the same result.

I expect Limehouse will be freshwater given the basin is fed by the River Lee and they don't operate 'free flow' at the lock
