Upturned Yacht - Biscay

Interesting about vhf - we've just returned from a fortnight in Holland, returned to UK saturday evening, tried calling SYH at Long Sand Head earlier to reserve a berth and no reply... Got through using my phone which surprised me as I thought we were too far away. I was slightly concerned that my vhf call did not get through, had a quick look at my masthead aerial and it was missing... No idea when it got lost, I don't think we used the vhf at all on our trip.
It's an aerial from Salty John and just checked on his website and you can get a replacement whip. Replacement will have to wait until it's laid up though - I'm not going up the mast when afloat!

The marina I am in won't let you go up the mast when you are ashore, you have to be afloat or pay to have the mast down.

Sorry, Fred Drift.

That's a good side point. Almost no UK insurer will allow climbing the mast of a boat on the the hard standing by. A Cherry Picker must be used instead.

That is what I said in one post using the phrase fast as possible.

The first opportunity here was a big yellow bird with "SECURITE CIVILE" emblazoned on it.

Another giveaway is the visored man hanging out the side wearing a yellow helmet, and with one hand on a steel wire with an orange weight on the end ;)

I'd just put the shovel down if I were you !!

One though about rigging over the side, when long distance saling we carried a wire cutter so we cuold get rid of the rigging in the event of dismasting.

Did you ever try it on the thickness and wire type of your rigging? PBO did a test a few years ago and basically angle grinders and hacksaws worked when bolt cutter and wire cutters did not.

I have tried that method and I am a strong 16 stone man it's not an easy task .

+1 Explosive cutters, angle grinders, and hacksaws will all work subject to conditions.

I had a crack at some retired lowers (14mm Dyform) just to see. Barely made an impression with a big bolt cutter. Stronger chaps didn't do much better!
