Has anyone been to upton on severn or near, any info on having a trip from Penarth up the river for a weekend would be appreciated, I believe there are marinas at Upton or nearby, is it possible for a fly bridge, not sure how many air draft restrictions there may be going up here. I know that solitaire 11 is based up here perhaps he could help.

hi,

yeh you'd get up here no problem, loads of airdraught.

make sure you book sharpness 24 hours in advance, think it's a £50 locking fee for non licence holders and bout 25 for a canal and river license, theres loads of places to stop on the ship canal and quite a few on the river, although theres space in the marina if you like creature comforts.lol.

it's well worth the trip but you might need more than a weekend to do the river as well, right to the top.

aim to arrive at sharpy -1 to hw and once your in monitor ch 74.

anythin else give us a shout.

has rich said no problem keep harveymae there, you need to book swing brigde now just before glocs 12/24 hours before straight forward unless your air draft is lower than mine

As the others hve said, no problem with air draft on the R Severn. A few locks to negotiate, and swing bridges on the canal. Ambitious plan for a weekend though.

I can see a weekend is too short to go to Upton especially with the tides to consider, Im just looking for somewhere different as it just seems like the boat is programmed to turn to starboard every time we leave the barrage, would Gloucester be sensible for the weekend as im thinking up the Severn might be a good option to leave for a couple of weeks over the autumn.

I think there are some restrictions on the canal just south of Gloucester due later this month. Worth checking the BW website before planning your trip.

some nice pubs in upton. The swan does nice food and there is the cruisers bar in the marina, they used to do a nice Sunday lunch don't know if they still do. A nice place to visit. As others have said it is a bit anbitous for one weekend!

I'd certainly give the canal a go. We kept our first boat at Sharpness

It can take a long time to get through the lock each way and there is only one lock per tide so you are restricted.

Glos and back would be a good trip for a long week-end. If you have time you can lock into Tewkesbury but you cannot go any further due to head room

At gloucester lock, you have these things wanting all the lock and he said to me watch my paint work

when you come up let me no will try to meet up some where and yes I love the p38 think there have put right what was wrong on the p36.

Had some some close calls with those things but that is crazy good idea to take a picture or a video in those situations so if you have a crash they can't pin it on you!
