As this is just up the river from me I wondered about the merits,or otherwise, of joining (if they would accept me of course).
Is anyone a member or has any opinions?

Nice group of folk although you have to be prepared to 'follow the rules' eh Apollo. I used to be a member, thoroughly enjoyed it and if we weren't so far down river I'd apply to join again. Although not sure they'd have me back![]()
He is not as old as Boatone......![]()
Excellent club. Been a member since 1985 and no I am not THAT old!!
Like most clubs, boating or otherwise, you will find some activities more to your liking than others and certainly people too, but that is life.
A good cross section of activities, some at the Sonning club house/ grounds, some on the river elsewhere and some estuary/ coastal cruising.
We took 2 years out in 2012/13 and spent serious time cruising Holland. Fantastic.
Most events are pretty relaxed these days with the odd 1 or 2 more formal but nothing to get excited about.
An added benefit is use of the visitor mooring area to either take in the Sonning Mill Theatre (right next door) or just stop and enjoy the setting.
If you decide to join, be sure to make yourself known to me (Mike and Sally, Amadeus-M) and will ensure you meet people.
Hi Mike, we've been on the Welsh coast for a while, only just come back on the the Thames. We have a 'new' Davnic Row now. Sounds as if you've had a great time cruising in Holland etc. I was sorry to hear of Peter and 'old spice' although I gather he hadn't been to the club for a while. Sounds as if the club is still going strong and you've had a good variety of Commodores! I still keep in touch with Howard Slegg, may meet a few members on the river although we need to get the arch hinged before we can make it through Windsor! Hope you carry on enjoying the club! Dave.Hi Dave.
How about "fairly old" but young at heart?!
Well, thank you. Enjoying early retirement including 16+ weeks cruising in Holland 2012 and 15+ weeks in 2013 in Holland, back to Brundall and then a great cruise down the Suffolk/ Essex coast for 5 weeks. Good having time to spend in some lovely places.
I hope all is well with you? Did you survive the ravages of the Thames last winter?
