Hi, I have uploaded some photos in the for sale section and need to upload more , but it tells me that I have exceeded my uploading capacity ? I have trolled the help section but cannot find the solution, can any of you advise me how to overcome this. Many thanks.

Set up a (free) account with photobucket...

http://photobucket.com/

...and then you can upload as many pics as you like.

To insert in your ad, copy the IMG code from the photobucket pic and paste into the add.

In order to keep the file sizes small, I usually open up the pic once downloaded into the computer, open it up in Photoshop & save as a small file size. Alternatively you can use a PIXresizer programme.

+ 1 for Photobucket.

You can adjust the size as you up load them to Photobucket without having to resize them first
You can do a certain amount of editing of uploaded pictures too

Id suggest looking at the facility to arrange pictures in multiple sub-albums on P'bucket and also the facility to make sub albums public or private.

If you have pictures saved as attachments that you no longer need you can delete them... I dont remember how!

You can also use the "album facility" on the forum to save pictures. forgotten how to do that too as I always use P'bucket.

An advantage of P'bucket is that you can use the pictures for other websites, forums, blogs, emails etc

Hi Dave, Have set up an account with photobucket and have uploaded all my photos to them , however the IMG code on the photos *IMG 218 dosent seem to mean anything to the practical boat owner web site, I cant seem to retrieve from photobucket to copy into my for sale ad. stiill need Help! Many thanks for all the replies.

Have you clicked on the IMG code? It will either 'say' copied or you will have to right click on the code and select copy. Then open your advert and 'paste' the photo.
Hope this helps.

HERE is a screen grab of my "Forums 2012" sub album ( only three pics uploaded)

Pbucket.jpg

In the "album" view I have moused over one of the thumbnails to reveal several lines of code.

If I click on "IMG code" the code in the adjacent box will be auto copied to my clipboard.

I can then simply paste that ( complete with the IMG tags) into a post and that picture will appear
If I only want a clickable thumbnail to appear then I copy and paste the code for "IMG Thumb"

DSCF1066.jpg

or .......

Simple!

After Vic's answer, can I assume you are now OK with this?

IF they are not autocopying to your clip board perhaps you can highlight the code and copy in the usual manual way.

that is how we used to have to do it at one time and also for spell when some compatiblity problem arose

If that still does get round the problem before the grandson sorts it out:
click on the thumbnail picture to get the full sized one displayed. Right click on that and then left on "copy Image URL"
Then paste that into your post using the "Insert image icon"
insertimage.gif
.

Please just keep it simple.
1) have you posted your picture and does it appear in your album on photobucket?

2) just hover your mouse over the list of codes that appear under the picture select the IMG code. You'll need to hover your mouse on the pic as pointed out by VicS (thanks VicS).

3) left click your mouse, a drop down box will display. Click copy.

4) open your post or whatever it is on the forum that you want to put the photo in. Click in the box where you want the photo to appear. The cursor will flash.

5) right click your mouse and select paste.

Voila.

Don't know why you are using clipboard or anything else.

Well that should help to confuse matters

Firstly if you are in album view you have to reveal the list of codes by mousing over the thumbnail unless P'bucket is set for them to all to be visible. IIRC that is not now the default

Then you left click on the line called "IMG Code". That should auto-copy the line of code (.... to your clipboard ... that's where its copied to!)

Then you paste it into the post where you want the picture to appear.
Using CtrlV is the easiest but by right clicking and pasting if you must.

Absolutely it is left click. Mea Culpa
I'll now go and edit.
Obviously selecting the picture, I think I said under the picture if you move the cursor on or under the pic the codes appear.
Why mention the clipboard at all? Just confuses matters imho!
I think Silverdawn pointed out that they were not terribly computer literate. I share that afflication. Therefore the keep it simple. Mention CtrlV - why - at this stage they just want to post a picture :)

Using CtrlV is the simplest way of pasting anything. Just position the cursor where you want it to go, press and hold ctrl while hitting V.

(Likewise CtrlC is the simplest way of copying anything that has been selected/highlighted)

The Windows Clipboard is like a scratch pad available to Windows and all running applications. It allows pieces of information to be temporarily stored and then retrieved later by another application. Say you're writing a report and you see a bit of text on a website that you want to include in your report. You can copy that piece of text to the Windows Clipboard and then when you're ready paste it into your document.

Many people use the Windows Clipboard all the time without even realising it. The Clipboard is where stuff goes when you select Edit/Copy, press CTRL-C, or right click and select Copy from the pop up context sensitive menu. When you Cut you're also putting that data on the Windows Clipboard. The difference is that the data is also deleted from the source document.

Older versions of Windows had a "clipboard viewer" so that you could view what is stored

Uploading photos. more help

This whole subject has been something of a mystery to me since I joined the Forum, and I have consequently struggled. Now give me a sextant and.....

I have found a way to post thumbnails very easily, which of course can be clicked on and expanded. No photobucket involved!

Aplogies to those who already know this method - I hope that it will help some.

On the new message, click 'attachments' (paper clip) on the tool bar
The ' manage attachments' window opens
Click 'browse' and go to your computer image files, or memory stick, mobile phone, walkman or whatever.
Click on the image you want to upload
Click 'open'
The url will appear in the slot on the 'manage attachments' window
Click 'upload'
Image details will appear lower down, just above the table of image types and sizes allowed.
Job done.

Note that you have to preview post before the thumbnail appears.

Good luck,

Michael.

Yes the attachment system works, although as many people seem to have difficulty with it as have difficulty with Photobucket, and is fine for limited use

The instructions BTW are in the FAQs

The main advantages of Photobucket are that there is no limit to the number of pictures that can be stored .... I have over a 1000, the majority of which have been saved in relation to these forums .. and that once saved to Photobucket pictures can be used on other forums, websites, blogs, social networking sites and emails etc and are generally available for viewing by others, password protected if you wish.
I have for example a selection of my daughter's wedding photos in a password protected sub album on P'bucket. I can give anyone I choose the URL of the album and the password and then they can view them.

I have recently realised that pictures posted to the forum via the attachment route are not visible to users who are not logged in.

I tried it for a while but soon returned to Photobucket.
I don't think I ever found a way of reposting a picture, previously saved as an attachment, as a clickable thumbnail.

You can also use the pictures you have saved in your forum albums, although not as clickable thumbnails as far as I know. For example

picture.php
