Can anyone recommend upholstery material suppliers in the Gosport/Portsmouth area please? SWMBO is going to do the difficult bits, but we want to look at a good selection of materials before making our choice. We sail from Portsmouth Hr but live some way away and don't know shoreside very well so 'phone numbers and an idea of location would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hawke House of 95 Newgate Lane, Peel Common, Fareham (tel 01329668800) were at SIBS, and had a very good selection of materials. They are soon planning to move so if you want to visit, their catalogue states that it is best to phone first.
Lots of choice, reasonable prices.

Had excellent cockpit cushions made here a couple of years ago. In spite of daily wear they still look good, so can recomend fabric used. They had a large collection of samples from memory.

Gemini Interiors in Gosport are excellent upholsterers but do not know whether they offer a material supply service, you could ask. Helen on 023 9250 3003 located Harbour Rd, Gosport just behind Gosport boatyard.

Funny enough, I am currently trying to sort out reupholstery for my new boat in Gosport. I have found Julie at Comfort Afloat very helpful. Their address is Quay Lane Boatyard, Hardway, tel: 02392602686. Julie is very clear that boat upholstery should be very low in cotton, no more than 3%, which actually limits the choice drastically, but they have a range of suitable fabrics. No one else that I have consulted has said this but it does seem logical to me. What does anyone else think?
