Anyone used cotton corduroy for seat and bunk upholstery?

I have bought a cotton corduroy curtain from the charity shop to use as a throw to protect the sofa from the dogs. Best throw ever. It has shrugged of dirt, damp & mud & sand. I would consider using it as it is very tough stuff - back it with something though, or recover the seating with cotton duck and make the covers removable...

I recovered the main cabin cushions on our previous boat with cotton corduroy. It looked smart for several years but after maybe 5 or 6 years it started to get slightly bald patches on the corners. Having kids scrambling over the seats and dropping drinks/food didn't help of course.
I'd say it's OK for a quick fix but I would look for something more hardwearing for longevity.

It would not be my choice but if you use it, or any form of velvet, cover the foam with an inner covering or it may tend to pull the pile out leaving bald patches.

that is what we were told in our upholstery classes!
