upgrading smartphone

I have a Samsung galaxy ace which has served well apart from internal memory on which many apps have to be stored. My navionics app uses quite a bit of the meagre 180mb and i often get low memory warnings and have to delete stuff - a pain. I've heard the Moto G is well thought of in the budget category. Has anyone any experience of them?

I have the same interest as the o/p, can you tell me what you particularly like about the Moto G ? What is the feel like to the hand ? Is it a bit plasticy or is it ok ?

And pay £339 for a 16gb ipad mini 2 with gps. The fact that apple make you buy the 3g to get gps adds £100 on to their already inflated prices.

My reading is that at £140 you aren't going to go far wrong with a moto g2.

Told my 13 year old daughter that. As a result I am obviously getting her an iphone 5c (she is paying some of the contract out of her pocket money for the next 2 years!).

Apple are obviously brilliant at something, however if you can live without garage band, imessage, facetime etc then android is the way to go! I nearly wavered recently but have seen the error of my ways!

Yes, I got one too. Big screen, android, £150, 64gb SD card for £26 so I have all my music on board. Very good value.

+1 for the moto G.Just ordered another one today for Mrs..Has a solid enough feel to it and nice screen.Good for gribs etc.though I wouldn't navigate on it,having gps and charts for that.
 
Seems pretty positive feedback. I note that the spec says 'twin SIM', what does that mean? Also, if I buy off amazon on a SIM free deal, can i simply transfer my SIM from the Samsung? Pardon my iggerance.
 
Had to laugh at the 'daughter phone' bit. Only an iphone has sufficient cred.

2 sims 2 phone numbers.... Say, work number and private number. All in one phone. That's handy if you need two numbers, and of course one actually makes calls from the device!

I think you can have two phone numbers. May be wrong.

I couldn't transfer my old SIM card - had to get a microSIM card from my provider, but they sent it out immediately and for free.

ps: I looked at the first generation of these but my daughter said the camera wasn't as good as that on my old phone. The 2nd generation has a much better camera, so she told me I was allowed to buy it.

If you get a sim free phone then it's not locked and you can put any sim in it for whatever deal you want and can put in a foreign sim for hols.Having given up on Orange/EE because of the obscure website I've been using Giffgaff where the webinterface is splendid and the deals straightforward and variable monthly.As with other operators you get a free sim and can port your existing no.to it.Twin sim allows you to have a UK sim and say a dutch sim in place with simple switchover.

Just a note that you can buy a little machine for £2 which converts any standard i.e. large SIM into a micro-SIM. You can put it in a holder to convert it back to standard-SIM if you need to. Several holders usually come free with the machine. Or take it into any phone shop as they have the same machine and can do it for you in a few seconds.

I too recently switched to GiffGaff from vodafone for much the same reasons as yourself. The £10 pyg package is far better than vodafone's. The transferring of my number went without a hitch, but I did have a couple of problems with the settings on my Nexus 5 (I couln't send photos in a message) but a quick look on the faqs on the GiffGaff forum sorted that out.

There is nothing good about this phone, small screen, small storage etc etc.

However there is one important percieved benefit, its an apple!!

Daughter insists she is missing out as her mates use i message. If they all switched to whatsapp or kik or something everybody could save £100s!!
 
I was looking at phones recently and looked at the moto G. The versions available are a little confusing but I gather the deal is that whilst there was a version of the previous generation model which did LTE, the new generation is 3G only. Not, of course, that everyone needs 4G on their phone and indeed I ended up getting my old 3G nexus 4 fixed for less than half the cost of a new phone.

As the question is being posted in PBO rather than the lounge, someone should point out that the Sony Xperia M2 aqua (which I only have window shopping experience of) is in the same price bracket as the moto and waterproof, although apparently fresh waterproof rather than salt waterproof.
 
What's this about £10 payg package? I thought payg was payg. Does the Moto G take normal or mini SIMs ?
I'mcurrently on O2.
