Hi,
I bought a 2012 boat with what i thought was all the instrumentation: plotter, radar, sounder, but to my surprise:
- volvo displays only displayed the minimum: hours, temp. No info on fuel consumption nor rpm on digital displays
- raymarine c90w was not connected to the engine "bus" so all fields where empty
- no ais so no informatikn on "near by" things

So it had almost nothing to "play" and i am a computer guy that comes from cycling where you have all the metrics in realtime to play while doing hours of navigation and to do optimizations.
I went to raymarine at Paris expo thinking the problem was c90w too old and the recommendation was "if everything works you have a top installation"

I asked a local shop for an estimate investment of geat and service to connect everything and the estimative was 800 to 1500 eur to get information and connect to volvo engines, 1500 to 2500 for ais with installation and network connection to c90w... And i know the guy.

It is a lot of money...

So started investigating and a few weeks later i have, for 800 eur:
- all engine information on volvo displays and c90w
- ais receiver and sender installed and integrated
- all information on phone and tablet via wifi

What as required:
- volvo information "only" required a setup in the information displays, i got super help from Andy here from the forum: cost was 0 eur
- engine connection to c90w raymarine: 184eur from amazon uk
- wifi connection: 170 eur from amazon uk + 50 eur for additional seatalk ng connections and cable.
- ais emtrak b100+s100 package: 399 eur+nmea2000 to seatalk ng cable 30eur
Time: 3 sessions to learn and install, most of the time trying to understand what is what...

Next: what is the best software to have on the phone/tablet to gather and show all the information?
What i would like: Boat metrics (navigation information, rpm, wind, temperature) preferable with history stats and navigation (maps with ais info and additional layers of information like weather, docking contacts) with navigation tracking and trip history?

Any recommendation?

Not sure there is an app like that, haven't seen one anyway. As mentioned, what would work is a raspberry pi running openplotter, then get the data to that. Whats going out over wifi? Should be simple getting nmea from wifi into a Pi.
And engine data - what format is that in? Openplotter can read N2K with a CAN/USB adaptor.
The not too hard to set up the Pi to record everything to a database and create pretty graphs on any smartphone/tablet/laptop.

I'd be interested to know a little more about how you got fuel consumption out of the Volvo. Which model engine do you have and did you use N2K or 0183?
Hi,
I just plugged the Yatch Devices to the volvo display and to the seatalk ng network. Any information you already have on the volvo display will be available. Explore the setting on the volvo display as some information like fuel consumption might be available but not displayed (this was my case).

Thank you for the info, I will explore openplotter and try to see what apps exist.
If there isn't one, i will build it ?

Hi, sorry for the error, emtrak s100+b100 was 499 eur at marinetraffic shop.

Trying the payed version of OpenCPN.

What is signalk??
