ive made an offer and had it excepted.does anyone know if surveyors work on a sunday. i have a kit from a company to take an oil sample for analysis, consists of a length of tube and a small bottle whats the easiest way to get the oil out of the engine?

Pump it out from where the dipstick goes in.

Also do fuel test to give you an idea of whats lurking in the tank.

On the basis that you haven't got a pump.

Is the tube small enough to go down the hole dipstick, oops sorry dipstick hole? If so poke tube down hole. Leave in situ for a few seconds or so to fill with oil from the bottom up. Grasp tube and put your thumb over the end of the tube. Withdraw tube, keeping your thumb firmly over the end. Put oily end of tube into sample bottle. Release thumb. A quantity of oil will now flow into bottle. Repeat several times until bottle is full.

Of course if tube won't fit into hole, then something is too thick, and solution should be obvious. Just in case it''s you, then here's a tip, get a smaller tube. By smaller I mean thinner i.e. not so fat. I don't mean shorter, 'cos that won't help.

If you need further instructions as to how to differentiate between thumbs, fingers etc just let us know and we'll be happy to give more advice;-)

All of course IMHO

God help us and to think he's going to be out on the water all on his own too<BG>

Re: oil test

er Is there any point in an oil test? I mean, wdn't anyone change the oil before selling so all nice and top qualitee? Or does this fab test detect that the oil is only week old?

Are you having trouble spelling again Haydn? Please retype saying what you really mean. Use spellchecker this time though.

Oh H, BTW I have noticed that Tutts is now posting on PBO. So do you have to take it in turns to use the computer. How long befoe she plucks up courage to have a go here with the big boys. It'll be interesting to see the two of you arguing on-line.

Re: oil test

Good idea to change the oil but after half an hours running then sample test you can see if theres water or metal particles in the oil anyway so a waste of time trying to hide a knackered engine.

Does it matter where the oil comes from? If not and if it's in a convenient position you could always unscrew the oil filter. Or maybe not, I don't know.
