Have finally got a working windlass again.
Not surprising really as have installed a new motor, contactor switch and foot switches. Also replaced sub standard non marine grade wiring, from foot switches to contactor, and wired the motor thermal cut-out in to the circuit. The builder's installer had cut the cut-out wires off where they exit the motor. This could not be seen on casual inspection as the motor is protected by a plastic cover, which is bolted in place.
To summarise, a very shoddy installation, even the cable joins within the anchor locker were only covered with ordinary insulating tape, which allowed water ingress that caused the wires to corrode.
The standard of the electrical work elsewhere seems to be of a much higher standard, I can only guess that a cowboy installer was used to do the windlass work.
