Following the purchase in Italy, two 600 NM sea journeys and some land transport (*and a missing steeringwheel). The boat is now safely tucked up in the harbour 20 minutes from our house, where we have managed to complete a couple of jobs over the last two week-ends. This in preparation for the re-naming ceremony this coming WE and our first couple of nights onboard which are planned for the October break. The boat is actually starting to look quite tidy after we have completed the jobs listed below...

1) Interiour cleaning, ceiling to deck
2) Replacement of all curtains (no stripes)
3) Replacement of all carpets (no more mustard yellow)
4) Re-cover of the seating (no more stripes), and some of the other worn interor
5) Re-covered the two bathrooms (were very dark)
6) Total exterior clean (flybridge down... still need to polish though)
7) Replacement of bedside lamps in two guest cabins
8) Fitted new 240V lamp in saloon and pulled new course
9) Cleaned Aft deck and applied teak oil
10) Cleaned Stern properly and mounted new name (covered up)
11) Cleaned the dinghy and fitted new name
12) oil change on dinghy outboard
13) oil change and serviced the generator
14) Replaced all the SS rivets on railing on fly and deck.
15) Checked electrics after the long journey and re-charged batteries
16) Fitted smoke detectors
17) checked fire extinguishers and topped up as needed
18) checked all hull fittings and made list of jobs to be done when dry next time
19) Wahsed thought he watertakk three times (pump works OK)
20) Checked gas system

Probably loads of other thigs as well, but thougth 20 was a nice number to stop at.......

Will install new 240V heater on Saturday and plan to install holding tank + go through the remainder of the boat duting the winter.... Pictures of the cleaned up boat and interior will follow later...

Alf - I bet you enjoyed every single one of the jobs in your 1-20 list. I know I would.

Good luck with your new boat and I hope you enjoy many years of pleasure with her.

Cheers
Dave

Looks great Divemaster. Smart move, Italian boats are definitely better built year for year than UK boats. Would love to see re-done interior pics. I can understand you changing all that, but even the old stuff looked very well cared for, which presumably holds true for the rest of the boat

what happened to the steering wheel?

Hi Alf, just been reading your tale of you journeys in your new boat. Strange my initial "maiden voyage" on the F36 when I bought it was 550nm too. Menorca - Mallorca-Ibiza-Cartegena-Almerima-Duquesa.

I reckon you might have enough miles logged for that Yachtmaster now ?/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Should be running next one in the next year. Do visit us at the London Boat Show if you can stand N1704

Nice one ... but with about 15,000 miles before this journey I may have been accepted for a YM course anyway ... :)) Did actually consider bringing her all the way on her own keel, but fuel cost made it a bit too expensive from that far into the Med.......May do so....

Yup ... got to be too yellow & stripy ... strange the cushions were re-covered two years ago and is actually done in a very high quality material, so keeping those (alhough not an ideal colour)... so toning the rest in with this stuff ... interior lining in all cabins were done at the same time, so that is OK... and in general a quite well cared for boat, but in need of someone to spend some time tidying up..... carpet, curtains and their rails were no brainers ....and desperately needed to go..

<what happened to the steering wheel? >

A bit long story actually with many people involved... but let's just say it was lost somewhere between SOF and Chichester .... Have received replacement today, so will fit this later this week ... but made for "interesting" changes of helm positions at Dover, the Thames Estuary & The Wash... That coupled together with a sticking port throttle at 1900 RPM towards a harbour wall and a snapped gear cable in reverse when manouvering out of Eyemouth (very NE for you guys) got me close to getting a bit fed up with it all..... (some heavy negotiations in here...)???? Now that it appears to be coming together I am much happier...definetly when you consider what the boat have cost me....so far..

well.... mmnyes at times I did use some language that I normally do not use as it is getting pretty cold to "play" with water at this time ... besides changing rivets when it is blowing a force 7 outside in late Septembar was anything but pleasant ... great when completed though...

Thanks, I am sure we will ... and still quite happy as I have not exceeded the budget (yet) ... purchase price was less than a early '80 33' Birchwood Sportsman, but transport & fuel got on top of that...(hard negotiator apparently..).

"After" Pics

Well here some of them are ... still a bit "yellow" but seriously toned down and all stripes (1st priority with cleaning) are gone... at least managed to get it to a stage where we can "live with it".

Most time consuming was the two bathrooms which were (believe it or not) the same colour as the floors (brown....) and removing the stripes + re-cover some of the furniture. Still have not mounted the torpedo screen on flybridge & some stuff have been flinged into cupboards. Most of this stuff and spare ropes (150m of 20mm) will be moved from the lazarette and other cupboards to the forward crew cabin over the next couple of days.
Yesterday I sorted out and confirmed 220V courses & fuses ..(one damaged cable caused a short circuit, so have checked them all...... so now have shore power, fixed chargers ( 12 & 24V) and generator also delivers 220V (3.5KW) to the panel. but of course, in my crawl around the cables, I did find other "nice to have done" things that I have put on my "to do" list which is increasing ... not decreasing...))

In her current berth & clean...
