The bracket which holds the bottom rudder fitting on to the skeg of the boat has has three countersunk bolts with three nuts. The nuts are not hexagonal but are round with a slot, they are also countersunk with a raised head. They are obviously made to reduce turbulence in this important area but I've never seen them for sale anywhere and can't find them on the internet (so far) but then as I don't know what their called i'm don't know what to search for!

Anyone know the name of these nuts and/or better still where I might be able to buy some?

HI, Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately these barrel nuts are not what I've got, I probably haven't described them well enough.

Mine are an actual nut about 4 or 5mm high/thick, domed both sides except the outside has slots like a screw. The bolt passes through leaving a small amount of bolt/thread proud.

The "slotted nut" are the closest so far, the slotted bit is the same but on mine the nut is symmetrical about the horizontal axis (except that the lower section is not slotted), the nut sits in a countersunk hole with the slotted bit proud. I guess the best way to describe it is a flying saucer shape with hole and thread right through the middle.

If ever there was a post that needed a photo, this is it. We could go on guessing for days without knowing what we are trying to guess.

Maybe we've hit on a format for a new TV show, where the contestants have to guess what they're supposed to guess?? Errmm. Maybe.
