Club members Sealine is ashore in the Solent with leg gear problem. Not sure of leg model but think it has 240 HP D4s fitted. ?
Unable to engage reverse on return from trip while entering marina.
He has been told by the repair outfit that a "quadrant" at the leg end of the shift cable has distorted.
They have suggested the cable (Bowden ?) is replaced and that a new cone is also fitted while the leg is off.
This is the second time this problem has appeared on this boat involving the quadrant/shift cable and work was undertaken previously by a different company in a different marina not far way.
His main concern is , once fixed, getting the boat back to the Medway for the winter and reliabilty concerns on the way round.

Any comments welcome.

I would seriously consider taking her back to the Medway by road. It would cost very little more than the fuel and be dar easier on the nerves.

Dph A sounds like a bent linkage bracket .
I can’t see any reason why it would need a new cone clutch .
I’d say that company is milking the job .
Had same thing happen to one of my Thames customers when he went south this summer , all he wanted was a shift cable , they said drive needed to come off and needed a full service . Absolute rubbish .
That’s main dealer culture for you .

Never seen a distorted quadrant on a DPH drive and the actuator would stall before it managed to distort it I would think. As regards the cone if the engines are not high hours and its been shifting without any delay when a gear is selected then I wouldn*t be thinking about changing a cone. Get Volvopaul to look at it.

You are joking! Boats belong on the water.
And it’s a lovely trip I used to do at least twice a year. Loved it. I did oxford to Cherbourg one holiday., stopping in the Medway for a bit.
