Hello out there.

I wonder if someone might be able to help me. I lost the bung for my boat and don't want to replace the existing holder as it appears to be part of the fibre glass and goes quite deep inside the boat.IMG_9057.jpg

I attach a photo with hope that someone can help me.

Any advice / sales welcome.

I've had boats with these type of bungs in the past - they are a simple plastic screw-in plug. You should be able to source a spare plug without having to replace the fitting itself - even if you have to buy the whole thing as a kit.

To avoid losing it in the future, tie a piece of string to the inside of the plug and feed the string through the hole and tie it fast inside the boat. That way, when you take the bung out, it will still be attached to the boat and can't get lost.

Thank you for the information. I wonder if you might recall the company you bought the bung from?

I am unable to locate it anywhere on the internet.

Appreciate your time.

Thanks Davy

My bung isn't screw type it's the bayonet push in which I have found before but you will notice from the photo this has three plastic lugs in the inner wall not two like standard ones.

If you look through the link there are bayonet fittings there, It looks to me that the fitting you have, is not part of the fibreglass, most of the fittings have a retaining nut on the inside (as there seems to be no visible screws) you should be able to replace the fitting with screw or bayonet of your choice.

Hello thank you for your reply.

It is definitely not the threaded type.

Had thought of filing the lugs off and using a rubber bung.

Last resort though.

The last resort surely is taking the fitting out and replacing it with a new one complete with bung. As Davy says, the fitting isn't "part of the fibreglass", it's an off-the-shelf item that the boatbuilder bought and fitted through a hole drilled in the hull. You can see the slots used to stop it from turning while the nut is screwed onto the inside to hold it on.
