Hi all
Am I alone, or have other Forum members /IPC subscribers received an advertisement Email from Flag finishings paint / antifoul suppliers?? Now I know I'm pretty careful about my personnal Email address, in nearly all cases I decline my address being passed on so I don't get junk mail I guess it must have been sold on, I wonder if it is IPC????

Well I haven't had one. Kim has sed on other occasions they don't pass on email addresses and I believe that to be the case.

I got one yesterday too, and like you don't publicise my email address to companies.

I've had nothing to do with that company but interesting to note that it ties in neatly with the Antifoul feature in MBM !!

You may find this site helps you out, as it is now illegal to send unsolicited email

To clarify

IPC fully adheres to the requirements of the Data Protection Act; further details outlined in our terms and conditions and privacy policies here on the site. I notice that there is reference to the DMA site; if you look to the footer of this site you will see that this company is a member of that organisation and provides a link to it from every page.

Specifically with regard to ybw.com sites and email addresses, if we have captured your email address for the purposes of registering for these forums then that is all we use that set of email addresses for; they are not exported for any use as we have not solicited your permission to do so. The same applies if you register online here for specific email newsletters; we only send you the newsletter specified and there is an unsubscribe option with every newsletter delivered.

Like you I've had one too, only thing I can think of especially having read Kims assurances is that perhaps I had to register my address when purchasing from a particular mail order chandlery. Can't remember doing that and like you am very careful. This doesn't stop literally 10's of spams everyday offering Viagara etc. Perhaps they're trying to tell me something. As I understand it all the spammers have now just moved out of the EEC and thus outside law. I know these people got my address from a colleague who left his address book unguarded and got hacked. What can you do??

Thanks Kim

For your reply,it has put my mind to rest, I am just narrowing the field.I don't and never have suffered from Spam Email ever!!!So I was surprised to get this one albeit a nautical one from a company up till now I had never heard of, so I guess the source must be elseware!!!That leaves me with 4 other online marine suppliers, that I have used in the past 6 months, ummmmm???

Re: Thanks Kim

Why so paranoid? Peeps can get your email from multiple sources, and IPC isn't going to be one of them

Get yourself a decent antispam software, and ignore them

Re: Thanks Kim

Hi Brendan
not so much as paranoid, just curious in this instance.

We hope that you don’t mind receiving a special offer from us. Don’t worry you are not on our
database and you will not receive any further emails, unless of course you ask us to contact you.

So how did they get it in the first place?????

Re: Thanks Kim

All sorts of clever tricks. You sign up to a magazine or site. They ask you if you want to receive messages from partners or themselves, First one aks if you want to sign in, the second one asks if you want to sign out.
So you read message, and click both boxes. One gives permissions, the other doesn't.....you have to be aware the whole time.

I'd bet you've signed up to being sent messages from someone without even being aware!
