Unsightly houseboat in Lower Upnor on the Medway

If you want to build something ugly you just put the word "eco" several times in the planing application....

Any news on this I thought we would have heard by now
Still awaiting final decision of the Inspector.
Estimate from time of enquiry to judgement was around 8 weeks.
If the inspector dismisses the appellants appeal, the company which was engaged to drive all those piles without permission will presumably be instructed to remove them, somebody will have to draw them. somebody will be seriously out of pocket ?

I suspect it won't be as straightforward as it'll all be gone in 9 months time!

The houseboat itself doesn't really bother me that much if I'm honest but in the same way as building houses on plots of land without permission you're cruising for a bruising eventually.

I reckon the 9 months will come and go and it'll still be there in 2026. Maybe a sweepstake opportunity....what year will it be removed?

There are 20 pages detailing the Inspectors decision.
There were breaches of planning law and others regards the driving of the piles into the river bed without permission.
The inspector also comments that the number of piles driven were well in excess of what a single houseboat might require and draws a conclusion that this was with a purpose.

Can they be done for environmental degradation….for the damage to the river bed ?

Any structures in/on the River Medway require planning permission from The MMO.
Of more interest us locals is with regard to the Rochester Oyster and Floating Fishery. ROFF.

No matter how high and mighty you are including the Crown, The Military ie The Dockyard and RE, old Tom Cobbly and all the Kings men , you need to have consulted ROFF to do anything affecting the fishery.

The houseboat owner was very well aware of this but carried on regardless assuming that nobody would take any action.
A big mistake.
As many folks have discovered over the past few centurys , inc Maggies privatised Southern Water in the 1980s you mess with ROFF at your peril.
ROFF took them to the High Court and won.
The Admiral of the River Fishermans Court held annually in the Rochester Guildhall.
The folks with the Hats and Robes in the background are from the Thames Southwark Guild.

Mess with this lot at your peril. :)

do they have a view on jetskis? :)

Whats a jet ski, most of the fishermen are still struggling with the idea of not using a lead weight with a bit of wax in the base to work out where they are on foggy days. :)

Second hand info here…a body like this (assuming the same) popped up when MYC extended its pontoon, something about lost fishing opportunities.

I believe they asked for a chunky yearly payment or a substantial lump sum. Don’t know how it was resolved in the end, I think a compromise on the amount requested.

Any loss of fishing grounds in the river is subject to "reparations ", a couple of marinas have discovered this, usually after being advised by their legal eagles.
The RE wanted to move their jetty a while ago and were advised that not only did they require permission from the MMO but also needed to talk to ROFF as well
When approached they declined to enter into any such negociations suggesting they considered they were above such trifles
The MMO warned no negociations......... no planning permission forthcoming.
