We are not entered in the RtI but are thinking of doing it anyway, unofficially.

Is this frowned upon. We will of course keep well clear of the start lines and use common sense.

Can anyone suggest a the best time to leave. The official starts are between 6 and 8AM and it looks like the slower boats go at 8. Am I correct? (We would be in the "slower boat cat" I think (Shipman 28))

Thanks in advance

Wayne

We are not entered either, and have decided that the best approach is to be 20miles inland catching up on all the chores that get put aside to go sailing on other days.

Although I can't speak from experience, I expect that the solent is even more chaotic than normal with all the 'spectator' boats in addition to the entrants.

So I am looking forward to a well tended garden, for once, and gaining more brownie points for another time.

Up to you! But I'd think you'd be getting the worst of both worlds .. all the pain and hassle .. and no feedback!

It's midsummer's day so we'll be down at Stonehenge with our Druid friends.

But if you want to do it with out mucking-up racing boats, stick to the Hampshire shore in the Solent (leaving and coming back) as the vast majority of racers will be trying to work the island shore) and don't get too close to the Needles which is always uncontrolled chaos. Round the back of the Wight things have generally thinned out a bit and you can sail a course as if you were racing, but stand a bit further offshore at St Cats than the racers do, and ditto at Bembridge Ledge. The next pinch point is No Mans Land Fort, so go through on the Hampshire side and you won't obstruct anybody. Watch with amazement the ferries trying to get into and out of Wooton through a solid stream of boats, and finish by going up the Hampshire side of the Brambles.

If you are not an official entry, then forget about visiting the Medina that weekend. As we found out one year, you are not at all welcome.
