Unmanned Locks

Just returned from a week from Sonning to Lechlade and back to Oxford.
12 out of 24 locks unmanned. I shall be submitting a report to ATYC (as requested).
I have a feeling that we were warned that 1 lock keeper may be covering more than 1 lock in the reaches above Oxford.
Don't remember any discount on the licence being offered for those operating primarily in this area?
As for the lock that jumped up and ripped out 2 of my stanchions ..........!!!!!!!

Out of touch with above Oxford these days. How many of those that were unattended did you have to operate by hand?

the last few weeks we have found that boulters lock is the worst for being unmanned - still, not as if that one is ever any busy !!

I like the locks above Oxford, easy to operate with ship's wheel type gear on the paddles, balance beams to open gates and a thoughtfully provided pole to push/pull the other gate. Oh, and unlike my home stretch on the Wey, all in nice working order and painted and clean. I don't mind if no-one is around on those, it's the electro-hydraulic buggers I hate, especially if power is off very late.

I gather the power went off at Cleeve Lock last Friday night at about 9:30, when one of our boats was half way through operating it. I thought the clocks were checked regularly?

The clocks are supposed to go off at 2130 at the end of a cycle

Ah, that explains it, we thought it was 2200.
