The Victoria 34 is a very nice boat. I crewed on one in a RTI some years back, when it was blowing a steady F 6-7. I was extremely glad to be on her rather than some of the other, more extreme machines taking part!
Ah but we're getting bigger and bigger all the time. It costs me enough to keep my 26footer and I still reckon she's the biggest thing I can handle on my own.
And before anyone mentions McArthur et all.....I believe that parking the boat in a marina or getting her out and achoring have to be done single handed too, I know my limitations. Any clot can bimble about the Solent on their own if there's a shore crew to take the lines or come aboard for the tricky bits.
Sorry; got carried away there, for a moment /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.
22ft powerboat is enough of a solo handful for me. I can just about manage my Mirror Dinghy singlehanded, though the Harbourmaster usually issues a NTM when he sees me putting the mast up.......
No offence taken... I started in a £2000 Fantasie. I only had a grand, left it with the guy in Devon, got the other grand together and went down a few months later and collected it....he said he was wondering where I had got to and had moved the boat to a friends barn.
Some say you should buy the best small boat you can afford.
doesnt really matter how big the boat is for berthing, it is your prepearations that count.
I park my cat (9m) single handed all the time. Anchoring is much more difficult (or more precisely puling up the anchor) and this definitely requires an electric winch to do it single handed in bad weather.
I was in the PBO articles of Jan and Feb (seemed like a good way to get a bit more multihull coverage in that mag!)
Stepping off is easy as is fending off when being blown on. It is when being blown off and especially when you have to turn through the wind before lining up for the berth.
Actually, provided you think things through beforehand, it is not that difficult, however you do need to think differently to parking a normal yacht.
It is rather more akin to a mobo with a single outdrive.
