Can anyone identify this flag?

Dark blue background.
Single central yellow horizontal band.
Two small white stars in upper left corner.

Recently seen flying from the stern of a very large yacht at anchor near Nidri in Greece. I've no idea and can't find it in the large flag file I have on the computer.

Anyone?

Ah - yes ... thats the ensign from the independant state of "Fireball" ... I wondered where my tender went .. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The closest that I see is a blue flag with one star in the lower left hand side. Nauru.

Information about Nauru
Area: 21 km2.
Population: 10 thousand people.
Phone code: 674
Capital: Yaren.
Currency: Australian Dollar 1.61 : 1 Euro.
Languages: English, Nauru.
Religion: Christianity.

Capital: None, administrative centre is Yaren .

Nauru offers little to the traveller, but that is likely to change once the phosphate bubble bursts in a few years. A colourful reef dotted with sunken WWII wrecks surrounds the island, the waters make great diving and the sport fishing is incomparable. The island is the poor little rich kid of the Pacific, wealthy yet sadly abused. Island culture has been assaulted by the weight of imported customs, junk food, fridges, televisions and electric cookers, but it does survive in a modified form. Seemingly limitless mining proceeds have made Nauruans the richest people in the Pacific, but at various stages in their history people, culture, forest, soil and then subsoil have been stripped or shipped away at the whim of foreign powers. Exploitation has become an art form. The bird poop that was the island has been an economic boon to islanders, but Nauru's interior could now only be described as an ''ecological basket case''

Nauru

Close but doesn't quite fit the description:

Re: Nauru

Sybarite - I have seen the Naru one listed - its similar. The one I saw has a wider central band and the two upper stars mentioned. Its pretty close so I wonder if there is some connection.

VicS - I only have mobile access so the two sites listed, while good would take all my months usage up I'm afraid! Seems there is no way to search out a flag by description.

Can it be the forum is beaten? Or is Fireball actually the owner of a 120ft sailing mansion?

Was this "Air" by any chance. Some boat! 300 feet and only launched last May (The boat that is not the chopper on the poop!) Saw her on the North West of Spetsai

Given where you saw it, it may well be the Bosnia-Herzegovina maritime ensign. See the national flag on the World Flag Database. Not all ensigns are exactly the same as the National flag, e.g. UK.

By the strangest of coincidences, I just went online and looked out the back and the same boat just cruised past!
I'm tied up in Levkas and its transiting the canal.

It has the name 'Spirit of Bowfish' and its port of register is 'Willemstad'.

A quick search shows Willemstad to be one of the Nederlands Antille islands. Another search gave Curaco as one of these Islands and sure enough - thats the flag!

See it here!

Thanks for all the help everyone!

Many a happy hour spent on Curacao

Centre of Ilsnad has two attractions ...... girt big oil terminal !! Second is one of the largest Cat-houses in Caribean !!

They used to have a pontoon bridge spanning the canal into Willemstadt .... the outer 'dinghy' of the floating pontoon had an outboard engine on it .... so ships would approach ... guy would start engine and whole affair would pivot on one shore end. Later they built a cantilever bridge over the canal with enough height to clear ships ..... silly b's - they miscalculated the centre span ... bit like an arch ..... and the centre collapsed twice .... had to call in another load of guys to sort it !!! When we used to sail under it - everyone literally used to hide !!!

The island was always a favourite for Rich American Divorcees / Widows !!!
