What's the red "A" sticker for?

Good job they had a sturdy boat - that would have sunk mine!

The 52 in the numberplates is for Haute Marne, but the photo must be a few years old since they changed the numberplate format 3 or 4 years ago in France.

The incident happened last week on the Canal Marne à la Saone (a.k.a Canal entre Champagne et Bourgogne) near Chaumont. 'A' means 'apprentice' and that the driver passed their test within the last 3 years. The steel cruiser was in a lock at the time and the 5 car occupants escaped without serious injury.

I suspect the whole incident is on video too. If you look there's a camera on the boat coach roof. Even the cheapest record automatically. My cheapo (£20) car dash cam gives excellent results and automatically switches on with the ignition. I am of course assuming the boat is running or the camera set to record any movements even when off.

That is not a camera - it's a masthead light and the mast has been lowered.

Not suprised.

He's French and the driver was his wife who had been to get his baguette and red wine....both of which are now at ze bottom of ze reever!

I met the boat
A couple of weeks ago, he was heading to Holland where he would have the repairs done remarkably little damage, other than the dent in the coach roof and flattened guard rails only a little paint required.

No more details I'm afraid, the owner was very relaxed about it all, he only spoke about it when I asked how the cabin top had been damaged.
