Underwater lights

Re: Not as 'distracting' as Jack's ..

Really like the idea of underwater lights, however would prefer someone else to fit them, anybody know a good company around Southampton who could specify and fit ?

Re: Not as 'distracting' as Jack's ..

They're so simple to install that any boatyard who already does your usual boat fixing can install them. As for specifying them, boatyards will recommend lights that they are a dealer for, whereas you might want an independent view. Lumishore is the brightest and best but not the cheapest of course

Thanks, i looked at the lumishore web site and there were loads of diferent types, would ideally like one that has different colours and dimmable (is that a real word)

They are all dimmable, but in practice you will never ever dim them as you'll want as much light as possible. For colour change there are 3 broad sizes: smallish surface mounts, medium thru hulls and big thru hulls. Among the thru hulls there are then a few different types of light body/fitment.

Small is relative - the small ones are actually quite bright. 4 of the smx 150 http://www.lumishore.com/products/underwater-boat-lighting/surface-mount-color-change/smx150-ccp would be excellent on your boat, for example

If you want to go medium (which is a huuuuge amount of light) then 4 x thx801 with EOS control (brilliant) would be a very fine installation indeed http://www.lumishore.com/products/underwater-boat-lighting/thru-hull-color-change/thx801-ccp. Only a 25mm hole in the hull for each light. Beautifully made things

If you want the largest there is then you could install 4 thx 1501 with EOS control but that would be perhaps over the top for a 40-50 foot boat -they're nearly 20k lumens each, and quite expensive. The sq 78 in the youtube above has thx 1501 with EOS control. Also a 25mm hole in the hull

In each of the above cases you could fit 2 or 3 lights, not 4, if you want. Or six!

Poster EME can arrange supply them (he is ceo of lumishore) and offers a discount for direct orders from this forum

Hang on, it isn't an archaic incandescent bulb that I see lighting the allround white, or is it? :D

Aaargh! You are too observant mapisM! Yes, even though I specced the boat with zero incandescent, by mistake an incandescent was fitted to the anchor light. It is on my jobs list to change it, but I haven't got round to it (because, as you may know, there are so many different types of fitting like Bay15e with offset pins and all of that).

FWIW, the LED white light just below the anchor light is a floodlight for recovering tenders at night. Somehow it got accidentally turned on and I didn't notice till I saw these photos!

Re: Not as 'distracting' as Jack's ..

I discovered the rather wonderful lumishore light configurator yesterday evening (see website for further detail) and spent an extremely enjoyable few minutes working through all sorts of light combinations, despite not currently owning a boat of any description. :D

Thanks BJB , yes that is very observant of you! Only went live on Thursday.

http://www.lumishore.com/configuratorThat is our new Lumishore Underwater Lights Configurator. You can create your boat style/ lighting option and create a Social Media post on your own site as well as getting a quote from your local dealer for your preferred options. A few small things to sort like the best options for different boat styles but nearly there.

We also had a bit of fun / serious marketing collateral generation with a drone video week before last

Lumishore Underwater Lights, can you name the forumites whose boats are in the video? MATCH is a given.
