Under way, eventually (a 1200+ Nm cruise around Italy)

Thanks again, everybody! :encouragement:

Just to answer Scubaman questions, I've got a couple of zooms and a couple of primes, but lately I tend to use mostly the two primes - as I did in the previous pics, btw. The list is as follows, fwiw (all APS-C lenses, hence to multiply by 1.5 to get 35mm equivalent lengths):
- Compact Sony 16-50 zoom (kit lens with the A6000 camera);
- Sony 55-210 zoom;
- Sony 50mm prime (the best of the lot, pretty fast at 1.8 and with an excellent resolution);
- Samyang 12mm 2.0 prime (fully manual, but at that focal length the lack of autofocus is not a problem. Very good for the price).

Don’t know how far you are going down Croatia but we has a great week around Mali Losinj and anchored in Artatora Bay. This was some years ago so I hope it’s not been overdeveloped. There is a small island called Susak which had an old film set on it. Outsatanding area very jealous.
Suggest joining Italy at the Gargano coast to get the best out of Croatia

It's this bay you are talking about, right?
I've been there during my previous decade in HR, but just for a day stop. Is it well sheltered also for overnighting?
I agree that Susak is a small gem, but IIRC it doesn't offer any decent anchorage.
Another somewhat similar small island nearby is Unije, which has some very good anchorages on its E side.
Btw, it's the one I had in mind when I mentioned the possibly poor mobile coverage, though maybe Deleted User is right in saying that nowadays it's good along the whole archipelago - we'll see... :)
Anyway, yep, the plan is to go MUCH further South than Losinj, along the HR coast.
We are just still unsure about two alternatives afterwards, i.e. crossing towards Gargano (from Lastovo) as you say, or go further South up to Montenegro (also for refilling at decent prizes...) and then cross straight towards the heel of IT.
We'll follow the inspiration of the moment, I reckon...

MapisM, this will be an epic trip on your lovely boat. Looking forward for the pics. And if you need any info about Croatia, just shout!

About your options for your crossing, I can only motivate you to visit the bay of Kotor, aka the lake in the alps. And as you say, the taxfree fuel is a nice goodie :-)

We went up to Krka last year it's beautiful. The route up the river past Sibenik and across the lake is very scenic. We stayed a few nights in the Marina at Skradin, found it to be pretty good and some very nice local restaurants in the village.

+1 on that. The trip up to Skradin and a ferry upto Krka falls is an absolute must do. The Skala restaurant in Skradin is nice and the marina restaurant is not bad too. You can also anchor just before the marina or in a pool opposite and you can also moor on the town quay but we never worked out how you arranged that!

Congrats on finally getting going, looks like an amazing trip, looking forward to following your progress.

One thing we regret not doing (a friend of ours did) and that's to visit the Krka falls by boat and the last bit by tender.
We started the trip and realised how far it was so bottled out.
If you want to really make me jealous do it and post pics.
I can confirm from my earlier Croatian days that Krka waterfalls are worth seeing, for anyone who hasn't been there yet.
It's unlikely that I'll make you jealous now though, 'cause it's indeed a bloody long way (particularly timewise, due to speed limits) to reach Skradin, and I don't think we'll feel like adding more miles/time to an already long enough trip.
Besides, I must have used my old film camera to take pics, 'cause I just checked my archive and found none.
But if anyone else wants has some and wishes to help in making you jealous, feel free! :D

Its about 2hrs from Sibenik! Are you on that tight a time schedule!

Well, not at all actually, but I just mentioned it to S and she also feels to have "already done" that, so to speak.
Besides, she's already complaining that we only have 23 deg sea water atm, you know... :D

we' ve done that bay a few years ago, not really impressed tbh, but that was just the afternoon, and there was a light breeze.
in that region we've enjoyed much our night in Veliki Losinj, moored on the village quay, only allowed from 15 or 16pm until 9 or 10am, iirc (and not expensive),
and at tender distance or 30min walk from Mali Losinj

I think you deleted your prelim map / itinery, and you want to skip all south of Korcula ?
and go straight to Lastovo, Vis, Palagruza, Tremeti ..

imo that would be a shame, as there are some of our favourite places from the adriatic; Mljet, Jakljan and sipan, ... (you have our list) and not to forget the Kotor bay with cheap fuel ;-)

by the way,
on the liveaboard forum I read about a much more expensive Croatian navigation permit since this or last year ?

good luck with the trip,
as you know we have sailed the most of it (but not in one season) , so will follow with interest !

Actually I'm just struggling a bit with imgbox website - which makes the ugly Photobucket interface user friendly in comparison...
Anyway, the map should now be visible again.

But nope, we aren't ruling out Korcula, Mljet, etc.
We are just staying flexible, since we already made the whole HR archipelago several times in the past, down to Dubrovnik, and in our last year there we spent most of the time right in the southern part.
Besides, we are half thinking to go to Tremiti Islands, in which case it doesn't make much sense to go further South than Lastovo along the HR coast.
We'll see, the planning horizon doesn't stretch for more than a couple of days at a time...! :D

When you say that you stayed in Veli Losinj, do you mean this small village?
If so, we walked there once while moored in the marina of Mali Losinj, and it is indeed lovely, but I would have never expected them to allow tourist boats to overnight there. In fact, the only dock large enough for a boat like yours is the one right under the church, and IIRC it was packed with local vessels when we went there, both fishing and tour boats.
If that's where you stayed, how did you manage to be allowed...?

Ref. the navigation permit, yep, they must have heard that I was returning in HR after a dozen of years, and they thought it was appropriate to triple its cost. Not a smart move, 'fiuaskme - in fact, I heard that many Italians and Germans are thinking to move elsewhere (Montenegro, Greece, wherever).
But to add insult to injury, there are rumors that they already realized the risk of shooting their own feet, and it seems that next year they will come back to the previous tariffs.
My usual luck, I reckon... Aaaarumph! :ambivalence:

What rpm,s and what speeds are you planing
So far, somewhere between 1700 and 1800rpm, making from 20 to 23 kts or so. The boat just doesn't seem happy with anything less...
Actually, she seems to like even better the odd excursions into high 20s, up to 26/27kts. But I try to resist! :D

We burn somewhere between 90/100 L/ H each side at those engine rpms .
So yours are V8,s an extra 1;3 rd bigger so I reckon back of beer mat - you are burning 120-135 per side .

240ish @ 20 knots N of 250 say 260 ish @ 23knots .

Rising to over 300L/r @ 27/27 knots , somwhere twixt 300-350

Lovely island, I remember the water as clear as clear with what looked like tiny sharks swimming around. We made the mistake of assuming you could get fuel there. The harbour was very confused with lots of crossed anchors and backing up to the harbour wall so we anchored overnight in a little bay (somewhere?) and got to Mattinata (Puglia) on fumes the next day.
