Uncharted rock in Lymington.

probably because some feel that it was a waste of recourses?

The RNLI are not the perishing RAC, and I get a bit niggley when they are, or allow themselves to be used in that way.

It's a way of looking at it I suppose.....however, I would have thought that they would be well versed in the procedures for raising an anchor, and for that matter, taking craft under tow.

Get thee hence! thou foul desicrator or gentlemanly forums! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's all very well telling the cg for 'safety's' sake, and them calling out the lifeboat (because they had nothing better to do) but you can bet the lifeboat crew wrote 'call out to pleasure vessel' in their log and next year the government will have more ammo for compulsory registration/certification. We should sort out these jobs for ourselves, if we can.

Or chart plotters or radar or seame, or AIS, or..............

It's got to the stage where any computer literate dickwit can take a boat to sea! Time was, all the learning used to keep a lot of them ashore.............scary isn't it?

Oh, what the hell. It is only about 80 quid a year RNLI offshore membership isn't it? Three cheers for the CG in recognising the imminent danger and threat to life.

I am so happy the skipper and crew will be having a good laugh over a pint tonight. You could see by the photo how rough it was out there - a job well done by all!

I hope Andrew Fremantle is happy. After all, there is no such thing as bad publicity.

<snip>I don't think any yachtsman can "call the lifeboat" it's down to the CG.<snip>

[/ QUOTE ]Yes you can - on channel 0 /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
---------------------

Not so. Ch 0 is a private CG channel & used but not monitored by lifeboats. VHFs generally have to be modified to use CH 0 & coasty will be seriously miffed if anyone uses it without their permission.

Lifeboats are generally tasked by coasty. It's up to Coasty what resources they use if you call them. You'll often hear them asking for "any vessels in the are of xxxx able to xxxxxxxx........." etc. That's so they don't have to commit a serious rescue resouce to a tow job.
