Unburnt diesel

Ok I have just come down to the boat to look at the exhaust elbow and there is a small pipe that comes off the front of the elbow which I believe connects into the exhaust and when I feel the pipe I'd appears to be solid almost crystallized . I do not know the purpose of this pipe and if u can remove it without sinking but would this have any bearing on my lack of power and black soot ?
Many Thanks
Steve

A pic would be helpful.
In the absence of a pic ...is it the water injection pipe .If so it won’t sink the boat .
As someone posted ^^^^ the gills inside , the spray head gets bunged up with corrosion when the boat is in a salty environment.
Tends to lead to a rise in temps and excess smoke , white which is steam because what little water gets through evaporates.

Yes now you say it must have been a build up of salt as when I squeezed it that's what it felt like I then blew it through and it cleared and a bit of salt water soar back at me so I guess it's back to the drawing board.
I called volvspec today so think it's time to call out the big guns !!
