I have this morning picked up a 2006 13.5HP Two Stroke Yamaha, that has not been used since 2006. I bought it on Ebay.

It was apparently winterised then put into storage, my question is, are there any special precautions I should take before fueling up and starting the engine.

It seems to have plently of compression on the pull cord, I have only turned it over the once, just don't want to cause damage that might be preventable.

Thanks

Graham

Replace old fuel with fresh

Check gear oil

Advisable after sitting idle for that length of time to replace water pump impeller.

Clean plugs

Be prepared to do a full carb clean

But 1st and foremost read "Awakening a sleeping outboard"

BTW you should be able to find an owners manual on line if you did not get the original

reed valves get gummed up on two strokes and can shatter when started for the first time in ages.

squirt with wd first.
