Un-stop-able pop up Aldi ad

Firefox gives you the option to block pop-up windows.
Tools - Options - Content, then tick the box.
The built-in Firefox pop-up blocker only blocks 'conventional' pop-ups - that is new windows created on top of (or sometimes underneath) a webpage. Most other browsers have a similar pop-up blocking setting. I haven't seen this Aldi advert but from people's descriptions it's probably a 'hover ad' which is part of the same webpage and floats or spills over the rest of the page.

(That page looks rather old!)

It seems to have stopped now anyway. A few days ago it was extremely obtrusive, popping up with almost every move of the mouse. I ran a virus scan that found a couple of threats and thought I had rid myself of it but after a day or so it returned. Now seems to have gone of its own accord. I have no ad blockers.

Talking of popups, I am being bothered by SmartPCCare which keeps.... well.... popping up and telling me I've got 10 zillion things wrong with my pc. When I press the fix button, it asks me for money. I can't find where it lives on the computer or delete it. How did it get in? and how do I get rid?

There are plenty of fixes for this on the Internet but you really do need to know what you're doing. Best to take the disk out of the PC into another and scan and fix there. Otherwise call someone who knows what they are doing otherwise you'll think it's dealt with and it will return. Sorry you're too far away for me to help !
