Ultrasonic antifouling

So the big question has anybody fitted this to the boat. Ive read the articles etc supplied by the company and am still sceptical. Ive emailed them several questions and waiting for a reply. I am not sure if it is as effective as they say and wonder if the system will become inaffective after several months. This sort of idea was and is common in the realms of water gardens and ponds and i must say that the promice of clear water in a pond was not all that it was cracked up to be. I should know i tried for some 20 years with large Koi ponds. Still i stand to be corrected and am awaiting PBO to do an article on this subject

Snake oil seems to be the common opinion. Searching the forum will get threads about this posted every couple of months and yet no one seems to pop up and say 'yes I have a system and it does/ does not work.

There's a long and quite interesting thread about it here on CruisersForum. I reckon it's ridiculously expensive, and has high continuous power needs. It also apparently doesn't remove the need for antifouling. Can't see that it could ever be cost-effective.

The cost has always put me off.

However, a question to ponder might be "Does the face of the echo-sounder transducer ever get any growth on it?"

There has been a system advertised on this site. Looking at it't scientific claims I can only find reference to high power irradiation of cyanobacteria and e-coli. I am far from expert in these matters but cannot see a connection with low power ultrasonics for antifouling.
Rubbing the hull with snake oil looks more cost effective.
