Ultrasonic Antifouling

Just an update, as this thread has come back to the top. I'm going to fit one and will happily report back. I'm in the final stages of deciding between blueandgreen, and the one advertised on MBY homepage ultrasonic-antifouling. Nick, the chap at u-a emailed me and said it would be ok, if you wished, to get the 2-vibrator system and fit both vibrators over the sterngear,, if you wanted maximum protection of sterngear and were not bothered about the hull up front. I'm thinking of putting one vibrator right above the props and another midships

[/ QUOTE ]Looking forward to hear about that, thanks in advance!
If you have a chance, could you ask them if the system is really ineffective with wooden hulls, as Hugo reports?
I'd have expected the sea water (rather than the hull itself) to work as a ultrasonic waves carrier.

Hi there, just FYI, you'd better click the "reply" button on the post you wish to reply to.
This way, if the original poster has configured the automatic email notification, he gets an email with your reply.
In this case, I got such email, but obviously can't help 'cause it's JFM who should tell us about the results... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

All the talk seems to be on protecting stern gear, but what about the bow thruster if you have one fitted.

I am going to have one fitted by BlueGreen on my Sunseeker Manhattan 60 in Mallorca and they will be doing the initial survey within the next 4 weeks and carrying out the installation.

My intention is cover both bow and stern thrusters as well as hull and sterngear.

The boat was new in April this year and whilst the hull is fairly clear the stern gear is gumming up with the proverbial.

Will keep the forum advised on the progress blow by blow.

the 92 has 2 X ultra 20 fitted. (4 tranducers in all)
Will report here the performance as will be using in warm tropical waters.

the loading pics of yesterday showed a supper clean hul...but we have been in the water only for 2 months

I know this is a bit of a thread drift but I've just come from a meeting with our marina manager who is just about to reveal a low cost scheme here for lifting and scrubbing.

His scheme operates only if you do your annual lift with the marina's yard and you must be a Sant Carles Marina customer. His prices are to be similar to the costs that we've been used to when using the Cowes Sealift in the Solent.

So my stategy is now looking likely to be coating the underwater gear with antifoul paint during an annual lift/maint to keep the foul to a minimum and then a quick lift and scrub before we use the boat on long cruises etc. The cost saving on fuel alone will justify this strategy. The yard is so easy to use - even our 20m Princess will be out washed and relaunched in about an hour.

I was considering divers to keep her clean but this new service that Sant Carles is going to offer will provide a much cleaner result.

I didn't get round to fitting it yet, too busy. Plan to lift the boat in a few weeks, wash the hull and apply a coat of a/foul paint, then fit the u/sonic at the same time. So will report back next year

I'm planning to use the same gear (1x Ultra20) as bigmoose rahter than the Bluegreen product that Doug is using (Hi Doug, we met in Cala D'Or couple of months ago when I was blocking your parking space!). Only reason for this is that the Ultra20 people do not control the installation process whereas bluegreen insist a person they appoint must fit it and I don't want to take risk of an unknown fitter installing gear and electrical stuff on my boat. Even if the fitter is competent he will be motivated to do it quickly which can result in less than geekily-perfect wiring runs :-)

Complete thread drift, but this new forum is awkward cos you can't see who is replying to whom. Is there some way (in user settings?) that you can see who each poster is replying to?

Just use the Quote option. Easiest way.

Thanks, yep, I agree that works, it just adds (needlessly) to the length of the threads, which is a pain for blackberry-ers. In the good ole days you could see who the reply was addressed to without needing to quote.

You can use the quote button then delete all the unnecessary text in between the [ quote ] markups to reduce the size of the post and highlight which bit of the post you are specifically responding to while still retaining the info of who you are replying to.

Which is what I hoped to demonstrate above :D

I did not use the old style forums much so do not know how this compares to "the old way".

Yes yes yes, i know all that! :-) I was just enquiring specifically whether there was a way that post B could be marked as a reply to post A, without any quoting, like in the good ole days. As I'd like to with this post, for example! I think the answer is no...

You gotta remeber, not everyone uses quotes. Indeed if you hover your mouse over the bottom right icon it invites you to "quick reply to this post" and many folks (sensibly) select that. Then, urgh, the post looks lost cos you can't work out who the reply is to. Just scan up this thread for example.

When I read about these systems I quite liked the idea of bluegreen controlling the installation, because I could imagine a disappointed customer being told that the product hadn't worked because it hadn't been installed correctly. I would have thought that it would be possible to agree to have bluegreen's installer supervised by someone you did trust, although that would result in paying twice for the work element of the package.

Yup, this forum ain't half as user friendly as the old one. Apart from the issue you have mentioned, the e-mail notification only notifies you of replies to your post and AFAIK cannot be configured to notify you of all replies in a thread, as a result of which, threads are petering out because interested forumites can't keep tabs on how a thread is progressing. The forum is rubbish now really
