Ultrasonic antifouling

If it works, its a brilliant idea, especially as it claims to keep the stern gear clean as well. I guess there are potential problems if the shore power fails, it will drain the batteries and of course the hull would also then foul up. Interesting though.
 
I'm curious about attenuation of the ultrasound through the hull and over the considerable distance from the transducer to the extremities of the hull. One transducer for a 10m boat or two for a 20m boat implies at least 5m from the transducer to the furthest point.

If it draws "up to 1A", presumably this is at 12V, so the power is only 12W before any losses.
 
Saw something like it 30 years ago, did not work then.

Be good if it did then we all would have it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
I would like to see concrete proof it works before spending so many beer tokend, until that time I shall treat it as....

Have a look at the Blue and Green marine website. They have had their product under test with Southampton Universities National Oceanographic centre now for five months. Each months report says it works. They also have some UK based testimonials.
 
Your user name suggests you're linked to the company, so don't you mean the uni have had OUR product under test ... ? Best to be upfront about these things.

No doubts it works, modern are digital and more effective too.

Ultrasound is used in biolabs to sterilize and clean equipement, it cleans everything off even in those unreachable small places, very effective.

However, it does have a side effect on men (and men only), it kills a man's sperm. Not the staminal cells, just the sperm, so any man might be sterile until new sperm is produced. Might be good or bad, depending on what one whishes, however when ultrasound gear is on, all men leave the lab.

I wonder what this system would do during a day sail or worse sleeping overnight over an active transducer just under a berth.
 
Anti Fouling

Suppose you could use CopperCoat .. Not the cheapest way but after 2 years on a new boat it still comes clean with just a pressure wash .. A brush on the sides fetches off the waterline stuff with ease .. No barnacles yet ..
 
I'd like to know what the parameter for success is too. Slime?Weed?Barnacles..While a forest might be at one end of the scale, and gleaming condition at the other..what counts as a success in between?
