UK tides on both my mobile devices has the message Missing or insufficient source data for water height graph so whats that all about?

UK tides hasn't worked on my mobile for a couple of months now pity as its a great app . But the funny thing is UK tides works perfectly on a friends slightly older Samsung phone , so this app is still working for some ? may be with older phones . Any ideas why this is so.

In late August the UKHO reorganised their easytide website and at the same time a number of tide apps went down. some came back up after an update but UK Tides was pulled from the app store. I'm very surprised to hear its still working on your friend's phone (ie showing today's data).. are you sure he has the same app installed?
Evidently a number of apps scrape the easytide website for their data. Whether UK Tides was asked to stop doing this (I presume you need a licence to do it) or whether the dev decided they could no longer be bothered to maintain the free app is anybody's guess....

It's not just UK Tides that went down, FR Tides by the same author went down and they both disappeared from App Store.
I mailed the author but got no reply, I had mailed him previously re Poole double highs not showing, which he fixed and mailed me back. The fact that FR Tides went suggests it is something more than easytide site changing.

LadyInBed: Easytide does cover most of Europe so its entirely plausible.

prv: I guess that's the difference between a decent app and a free app. UKHO don't give their data away for free so if you want a free app then you are going to have to make compromises somewhere.

I ve just spoken to the friend and his UK and FR tides by Aprerto are still working today as of 60 mins ago any way .

Q1. Dose the App still work on any one else's phone these days ? .

Q2. why aren't most of us able to get it ?

I gave up with UK Tides. Now I use Absolute Tides. The app is free but you buy a year's supply of tides data for a couple of quid. Advantage is that it works without data connection - the info is always there. Plus when you do have a data signal on your phone or wifi on your tablet, it will give you the inshore waters forecast. It also has a great widget which means you can set your home port on the home screen and it will show you current state of the tide. Does everything UK Tides used to do but IMHO actually better.

If you go on the Play Store, remember you get the app free but have to pay for and install the tides data separately. To get secondary port data you go to the standard port and then select the secondary port from a list. Means you only have the ports you want to look at, rather than scroling through lots of them.

Still not found any Android app to replace the USP of UK Tides - a single space (1x1) widget which shows the next tide time and height at all times without having to open the app.

Has anybody else

Nothing with a widget as far as I can see.

Marine Weather Pro gives tidal stations plus weather. (30 days of tidal data)

Meteoconsult is OK for weather but tidal data is all over the place. Some pages show tides in UK local time, others in French local time but nothing to indicate which is which!

I may well go with the Absolute Tides software and buy the annual data - not a high price for what you get. I have emailed the developer as I use the Reeve Fowkes tidal stream atlases which are all based on HW Cherbourg which needlessly to say is not on the list of UK primary ports!

Is he sure? When it can't connect to the server, UK Tides gives a set of plausible but entirely fictitious tide times for any port you give it.
