Hi
Going to build a small wooden boat in the Spring and I've been researching different aspects of sailing. One of those is navigation. I downloaded OpenCPN to my Windows 10 laptop but I'm having trouble locating the charts for the UK and the Med. After searching YouTube most Opencpn users are American and are loading maps for every state and port all around the United States which isn't very helpful to someone living in England.

I've got the software up and running and found a GPS dongle at a car boot sale a few months ago ( just before Covid put in an appearance ). I'll try it on my Samsung tablet, well, if it works at sea there no reason why it shouldn't work on land too. Has anyone used this software here in the UK and how did you pull up the UK & Med charts on it?

If anyone can throw some light on this problem I'd be most grateful.

All the best and stay safe.

Michael.

You can get the set of UK chart from visitmyharbour at the best price.
Some countries publish their maritime charts for free, and others (UK etc) charge for them.

I like paper charts for planning and to back up up the electronics. The NV chart atlases give you free downloads of the paper charts that you bought which are loaded fine by OpenCPN. And now I've got used to their format I'm a convert.
