UK Marinas Water Hose Policy

Please answer the poll if you have a boat in a UK marina, I am trying to gather information.

The reason is as you may have seen from a recent post Guernsey Has decided to remove all hoses fro H&S reasons Trip hazard and Legionella aand I was wondering what other marinas in the UK do? Most french marinas i visit have hoses fitted on the pontoon.

My marina has hoses in place but then they are a big marina which charges are sufficiently high to invest in an infrastructure that meets the necessary legislation. I think like many things you get the policy that you pay for.

With or without a check valve a hose in the sun will hold and contaminate water in a short time, I have seen green water come from hose during warm weather and I wouldn't want to drink that or contaminate my tank with it. Double check valves have been required on all outside hoses (domestic & comercial) for a few years now. What's the problem with carrying a hose to use when needed then stowe away?

Agreed, that's what I do.

I have no idea what the official policy is at my marina, but there are no permanent hoses. All the taps used to be fitted with "hozelock" type quick release adapters. Very convenient but apparently very attractive to light fingered types; they all eventually ( i.e. not all at once) disappeared, presumably stolen. Now they are all standard garden taps with a threaded end; I choose to use a hozelock adapter to attach my hose ( I did not steal the adapter from them!).

They may/ may not have a policy regarding hoses, but as their adapters were all stolen, I imagine any hoses they might have provided would have been "re-homed" by the same people that stole the adapters !

Most french marinas i visit have hoses fitted on the pontoon.

I can't think of one marina between Cherbourg and Port Crouesty that has hoses fitted. Quite a few French leave their own hoses in place but that's not the same thing.

Leaving a hose attached to a watersupply constantly is asking for bug trouble. in a previous life a ran a licensed game plant, the water supply was checked from each poit for bugs regularly. The hose pipe for wasing down was always the one to watch and did fail the test on occasions. I would alwys use my own hose. OCD
