Would anyone know of a uk insurance company that sells 3rd party insurance covering uk waters and the med . Looking to go 3rd party as the boat is a 1977 coaster 33 worth £25000 and so far in my search the insurers want the boat surveyed , expensive when you add in the haulout and survey . Also can you get fully comp separately for a new dinghy and outboard ?
Thanks in advance

Try this bloke:
Richard Walton-Gould
richard.walton-gould@noblemarine.co.uk
I think his number is: 07799 885236
He's always been very straight and fair with me when I've wanted boat insurance without a survey. He insured my boat out in Spain for a couple of years.

Does it have to be UK Ins ? Plenty of good Ins offered out of Germany and other such locations ...

I used Nautima in Germany and premium was lower than any UK one I found - plus no survey ... you could set geographic range etc.

I have always used Trafford marine insurance I found that when I brought a boat in Gibraltar they insured for western Med and were willing to change to eastern Med when I wanted so very accommodating. Fortunately I never had to make a claim so do not know what they are like to deal with if you had to make one.

Maybe think again about insurance on a boat that value. Given the restrictions of Schengen travel (if they apply to you) your boat will be left unattended the majority of the time. almost all claims against all risk insurance come from theft and damage mainly from weather rather than from when underway. Your new dinghy and outboard would be included in the main boat insurance at very little extra cost - highly unlikely you would get free standing insurance for them as the risk is related to that of the parent boat - mainly theft.

If your boat is in good condition there is nothing to fear from an insurance survey and you can use it to your advantage by spending time with the surveyor to get advice on how you can improve your boat. once you have your survey you can shop around for cover and you may well be surprised how little extra the all risks premium is over third party. £25k is a lot of money to have uninsured for your proposed type of use.
