Evening all

What a great day it's been. Will be sailing to Gib in July, and am spending the evening passage planning, what is the view of the Team re course south? Is it best to skirt Biscay and along the Spanish coast - I don't want to call into Spain, time is of the essence, or head out into the Western Approaches and turn left towards the Med/Gib.

What does the Team think??

As always many thanks for all replies.

Cornell suggests that if not intending to stop in N Spain, head from the Lizard to c. 25 miles NW of Finisterre. This keeps you out of the way of shipping going from the Ushant TSS to the Finisterre TSS and mostly out of Biscay. Your timing should be good so enjoy.

I did Falmouth to Lisbon a couple of years ago in early October - very lucky with the weather having a NE 4-5ish all that way down to the Portuguese border. Took about 4 1/2 days on a 42', another 18-20 hours would get you around Cape St Vincent.

If you don't plan to stop, I'd head for 10 degrees West, and then head South..... But you'll be missing some nice, and convenient, stopovers.... Bayona, Cascais, being only two.

Pm me

I done this very trip last year in July on our 38. Intention was to go non stop in around 10 days. What actually happend was a forced 18 hour pit stop (fried alternator) in cascais. Even with the 18 hr stop the 2 of us made gib in 9 days.

Best tip, get yourself west and off the shelf as fast as possible. Watch out for them trades off the coast of Portugal, we had a force 9/10 up our a*rse for 12 hours, triple reef main was still to much sail up. Allthough surfing at 14 knots is something else!

Pm me if you want my exact route ( I'm a picky person for log entries)
