UK gas bottles, should you keep?

Camping gas in my opinion is the way to go. As previously stated available almost every where round the Med and most EU countries. We are paying any thing from 7.80 euroes to 8.50 in Greece, the only prob is the Greeks seem to prefer dark blue bottles as apposed to the normal light blue bottles I started with. We have when we exchange them been given the light blue ones which have had a nice coat of dark blue paint. This could be a problem if and when we return to the UK.

The dark-blue bottle is Petrogas NOT Camping Gaz. Hence their preference.
Coleman, who own Camping Gaz, have stopped supporting the refillable bottle in Greece - the refills are being done as a local work-around.

Something similar has been the case in Spain, although I believe the impetus came from the Spanish side, rather than Coleman/Camping Gaz. I recall seeing a man in the back-yard of one of the chandleries at Palma Mallorca painting a pile of Gaz bottles dark blue.

Taking a tip from him I bought a spray can of dark blue and painted my last remaining light blue one before exchanging it in Greece last year. As it turned out they would take any colour, so not really necessary. Later I was refused exchange of a rusty bottle, which a buff up with emery paper and a respray solved, so my purchase worked out well in the end.

rightso it appears that I ditch the UK bottles here (I hope calor give me some money back for them), change the regulator and I presume buy new bottles of camping Gaz in france which I should hpefully be able to exchange arounf europe?

But you said you had camping gaz.

If you already have camping gaz just keep them, you can change them in most places, here in Portugal the best deal is in the local supermarket though the process is a bit byzantine.
