You of all people should remember that I don't particularly want to go back to Tunisia!

Good Lord.. you're talking about turning over the whole basis of British political decision! Making informed decisions???! It'll never catch on..

What worries me about the referendum is how they are going to address the huge (I think) numbers of "yes, buts" ("no, buts" if you're a glass half empty type).. like me...

I can't imagine it would make much difference as all the marinas and boat facilities would need/want the UK business. They also want to be able to sell us their boats and marine products just and we want to be able to sell to them. The whole unaccountability, corruption and out-of-touch aspects of the EU has to end if we don't want it all to end in bloodshed as the federal dream crumbles. I don't believe that that it can ever reform as there are too many hurdles and hands in the cookie jar. It isn't just us that aren't happy either and sooner or later the wheels will fall off. Brexit would maybe bring that day forward and perhaps then a looser, more democratic EU could be born - who knows? I was kid when we joined (7) but have always wondered why we abandoned the diversity of commonwealth in favour of a trading bloc that offer all the same products and services as us! Laziness and fear of standing on our own two feet has been my only conclusion! The new world order is global and as soon as we dump this silly little elitist, spendthrift club and spend the membership dues on something more worthwhile the better IMHO Reminds me of someone on the verge of bankruptcy who refuses to give up his gym or golf club membership!

I wouldn't be too confident of an 'In' vote either as many will vote 'Out' regardless of any concessions and many more will vote 'Out' because Cameron will be advocating 'In'! The only hiccup would be if Cameron can't get concessions and were to say we should leave!

Just as regards the way the law is constructed I would expect:

1. Boats already VAT in free circulation inside the EU at the date of Brexit would remain that way after Brexit; and
2. New boats post Brexit will, if VAT paid UK, be TI-ed into Europe ie have to leave for a day every 18 months

...except that #2 will probably hopefully be overridden by a free trade agreement meaning that things will mostly work as they do now
