"we prosecute verbal abuse of staff" - a sign that normally advertises an incompetently run organisation. I try to stay clear of them, but then most are unfortunately state bodies, local councils, NHS, or monoplies. Speaks loud about their leadership and generally how unaccountable they are to us, the tax payer.

Why do John Lewis not have these signs everywhere - because their employees LISTEN to their customers and act accordingly.

Depressing!

Or maybe because unlike the NHS, John Lewis doesn't have to open 24 hours a day to be the place of last resort for druggies, drunks, bored lowlifes with a grievance, and the mentally ill.

When the people above aren't controlled then the "normal" members of the public who are there get understandably upset.

Thats nothing to do with us. What we need to do is to remove any reason they have for chosing the UK.

Interesting. So you want to turn Britain into a third world country racked with civil war, state sponsored torture, perhaps stonings, maybe even slavery and human sacrifice?

As long as the quality of life in England is higher than it is in most of Africa, Asia, the Middle East and eastern Europe people will strive to live here.

On the other hand, most would happily go to America if they could, perhaps we should start helping them on their way by running immigration ships across the atlantic.

(snip).

Civil war? Well not exactly, unless you categorise the sides as the Chavs & the Chav-nots. :D

But State sponsored torture, yes we have done that in NI & Iraq plus the poor people that were "rendered" to Pakistan & other countries. Slavery is pretty common in the UK & human sacrifice is not unknown (remember the dismembered little black boy's body found in a river?), nor are stabbings, shootings & stonings (of innocent drivers from bridges on the A55 recently).

So are we really that much better than so-called "3rd World countries". It's all just a matter of scale isn't it?

I knew someone was going to post something like that. Still, given the choice, would you prefer to live in England or in the Democratic Republic of Congo?

Yet another grossly expensive, ineffectual and oppressive 'police force'... at a time when real police and their resources are being cut.

I am opposed to this unnecessary and unwanted paramilitary force imposed on us and will henceforth refuse to co-operate with them in any way whatsoever - even to the extent of ignoring anything they do and say, and answering no questions.

If everyone of us refused all co-operation, totally, they'd soon be redeployed or wound up. They can't arrest us all....

'We shall overcome...'

I guess most of us have no dealings with the police from one month to the next, the land based force is very response based. Not so the marine arm; in the nature of their work they have to seek miscreants out - in all our interests.

So an encounter on the water has a different flavour, they seem to be fishing etc. But since no contributor here has anything to hide, the regular approach is to invite them on board with a smile. The apparently daft questions are only tools to judge nervousness, so treat them as such.

PS. if you were a coastal patrol officer how else would you conduct your duties?

... develop good relations with the leisure boating community: several thousand (more-or-less) honest folk spread all around the coastline who - given suitable encouragement - would willingly act as the eyes and ears of their local community's law enforcement in defence of their own little patch of the realm against serious villains, and all that would be available for gratis.

Have you heard of Project Kraken ?

I believe there is an initiative under way to involve yotties and moboists.

Easily done...put it under authoritarian rule, restrict our freedoms, get rid of 'free speech' (such as it is) and stop any wealth redistribution and social care.

But is that the sort of country you want this to be?

There are plenty of places to choose if you do want a country like that. Please don't wish for it here.

The 2 Daves are heading well down that road already are they not?

Project Kraken belongs to the police, not UKBA. They came and gave a talk at our sailing club and while I can't say it was the most exciting presentation I've ever watched, they went away with everyone on their side.

Two for the price of one.

Who said anything about altering the UK for normal legal UK residents. The huge majority of our illegals are economic migrants not people fleeing persecution. Thats why they transit other safe countries to try and get here. Social benefit here is way better than working in the Congo, not to mention free health care etc. Leave your mud hut in Africa and let a British local authority pay 2k per month to house you here.

That needs stopping. Illegals are illegal and should be imprisoned and then deported. And I would include politicals in that too - how are their countries ever going to change if instead of fighting for change they just leg it to the UK?
