Apart from radios, as I know they work on a different system, does anyone know if the Raymarine displays, plotters, radar and associated equipment supplied in the USA differ in spec too that supplied for UK/European use? I am thinking of upgrading all my Azimut Nav equipment too something like ES127 and often have the chance to buy in the US where, with current exchange rates, even after duty there are some good deals to be had.
Appreciate any thoughts on this idea, cheers.

A GPS unit that only works in one place strikes me as being less than useful.

They produce a 'worldwide' version for use outside of the US which has a price premium in the US that defeats the advantage of buying from the US to get it cheaper than locally in Europe etc.

But yes would be a bugger if you didn't know, fitted one to your cruising yacht in the US and headed over the Atlantic of Pacific. I am not sure what functionality it disables, maybe you still get lat long, but it does display message "Not Valid for Area" across the screen. It seems there are some hacks to disable it but I just swutched from Lowrance to Garmin becuase the Lawrance worldwide versions are not good value for money to me.

I was told the difference is with the installed base map, for the value of the kit you are talking about I would buy local and not just form the cheapest online supplier, I would expect some kind of back up if it goes wrong and for commissioning help. Sending back to US if it went wrong would be a pain as the local dealer wouldn’t help. There are some good deals to be had closer to home.
