Hi this request to any owners or wannabe owners of a Colvic UFO, 27' and 31's I am proud owner of both, cut my teeth on the 27', first class Is all I can say, My playground so to speak is the North channel and up around the Western isles, she loved iti(Euforia that is)so due taking my good lady sailing and first time sailor she loved it, conundrum, the necessary stowage , was required so long story short I am now the very proud owner of Odyssey a .UFO 31, can any you knowledgeable guys out tell me if she is a Seaglass Oyster build, she is lead keeled, ps Euforia is looking a good home, but going to give her away, no tyre kickers.
 
My first yacht was a UFO27, of which I have fond memories (except for her flightiness in a large following sea). As you'll no doubt know, the 27's builder was Colvic, and I believe the same was true of at least the earlier 31s. I have read that Oyster Marine built later 31s, so the origin of yours may depend on year/hull number.

AFAIK all UFOs 27/31 and 34 were based on hull and deck moulds from Colvic: fitout was either by owner or several other yards, including Landamore and Oyster.

Oyster have only just (past 3 yrs) started own in house fitting-out.
Landermores & a Co from Kent ( HarleyMarine ????) were the only fit-out contractors used by UFO
The Oyster Brand were not directly involved with UFO production

Yeah agree with on both counts Mac, the Oyster sea glass versions were later models after Oyster fell out with Colvic and withdrew their licence to build them, was surprised to read that Oyster had so much involvement in the UFO's and that all the later boats especially the 34's were Oyster build, might both boats were laid up 1978 so highly unlikely to be Oyster sea glass boats which reported to be lighter and quicker, but who cares they are true thorough Breda and great boats.
 
It appears that factory built boats built after 1975 are Oyster. I had to replace the seacocks in my UFO 31 a couple of years ago and went to Landamores who still have the replacement parts for what's called the Elanco seacock. Does your boat have Elanco seacocks? If so maybe its an Oyster boat.

Interesting: I thought all UFOs were Colvic moulded.....
 
Thanks for that Euphonyx, very interesting, what do Elanco sea cocks look like, mine are plunger type, you push the seacock plunger down and turn it anti-clockwise a few turns to lock it if this makes sense?
 
I'd like to see a group to capture all the 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton style IOR boats, cruising or otherwise from the late 70's

The designs at the time are pretty similar, internally the layouts are similar with the same foibles and imaginative solutions to issues often are easily transferable.
I was very close to buying a UFO 31 and then a 34 before I opted for a masthead MGRS34
 
Cheers Euphonxy, that was a really useful link, yeah I think that confirms my boat was an Oyster boat and most likely sea glass, whoppee, you are a star,??
