Typical bank hol forecast, increasing costs, lack of enthusiasm...

Hard to get motivated with this weather. I have a speedboat to dewinterise today. The only dry day this week...Will not be splashing it just yet. Big boat is already in the water waiting for a rebuilt injection pump. Mildly excited about that!

I was excited at moving our Sealine S24 to the sea. Lots to do on her and cost already mounting. But diesel now £1.80 per ltr and getting very scares where I live and it takes 10 ltrs to get to the boat so that is annoying cos I need to have a full tank for work

Ahhh, Allington was one of my favourite places to go when I was based in the Medway. I suspect that crossing the estuary this weekend would be a bit of a challenge so good call cancelling that one.
The EA has spend some impressive amounts of money over last few years to restore and renovate the infra structure on the non tidal Medway.
Rebuilding locks and installing landing stages above and below lock chambers, building fish and kayak passes as well.
The area around the tidal lock has been transformed recently with hard surfaces for parking, up grading of toilet facilities and provision of proper mooring wall with power bollards in the lock cut.
They have also invested in "plant" including a small tug and barge to enable EA staff to carry out dredging, rubbish clearance and tree cutting in house.
Now almost back to where they were before the disasters of the water privatisations of the 1980s.
In the immediate future a proposal for a landing stage on the tidal river below the lock. :)

Oh man, that looks so much better. I recall the rocks protruding from the lower wall after the lock. I had a couple of extra large fenders I would always throw out because my boat fenders were adequate for my size but not for that wall. Maybe one day, I pay a visit to the Medway and stay for a month or so in Chatham. I did like it there.

Thank you for that. I am familiar with the club given the amount of times I passed by the pontoons and have seen them sailing around too. Are you a member? I used to be a member of the East Farleigh Cruising Club for almost 10 years. My idea of re visiting the Medway will take me to MDL Chatham for a month or so as part of the sister marina program in order to guarantee a mooring.

Apologies in advance for this coming across as a moaning thread, but with a typical bank holiday forecasted for this Easter weekend, costs of everything boat related and non boat related increasing at a crazy rate, am I the only one who is struggling to drum up enthusiasm for the season ahead. I know it's been a long old wet winter, but usually at this stage of the year, I'm enthused and raring to get the boat looking her best, and excited for the season ahead. Currently I feel like I need a kick up the arse to get motivated and get my mojo back 😄
Well after last years total loss of season due to Canal & River trust not maintaining the Glos Sharpness canal, shutting the low bridge un announced for 10 days due to temp, and restriction of nav depth at Gloucester docks to 1.2 mtrs depth. .. personally I cant wait to get underway again... to the sea.

oh, they offered no refund of the 1k licence though . Greedy B*****ds

the price of diesel is putting me off even using my boat so i am glad its going to be windy over the weekend.

Sell your boat , and let someone enjoy it. Then join a woman’s forum and moan together.
Seacock, if that's aimed at me, your encouragement and advice is much appreciated you delightful individual.
At least your reply to my post can actually be read and understood for a change. Normally some of the cr*p you write on this forum needs a good interpreter to make any sense of it, you keyboard troll.

Well Said ! That wasn’t encouraging a fellow boater or respecting women but I guess if Seacock has one she would be moaning about life with him

I was on board today, and felt the need to top up the diesel. All fine until I tried to crank the engines. Nothing. Fortunately there is a link connection to the service batteries, and both started. Phew. £350 of diesel and minimum £400 for the batteries is an encouraging start the the season. However, my first trip to the Isle of Wight will get the juices flowing again.

People are dying all over the world ,starving
and homeless . Get a life

Well, I have twin petrol outboards and before I had a 4.3ltr V6 carburettor lump. Always fuelled with Shell V-Pro and I still do, so I am used to pay a premium for fuel.
I won’t let this price increase dampen my enthusiasm. If anything, it will be the wind that may prevent me from going out before I lift her out next week. If I can go out for a cruise and find a place to stay overnight, fine. If not, I will chill with my wife and friends onboard. I have a nice bottle of single malt in one of the cupboards asking me to drink it 😂😂😂😂

Despite my admonishment from Seastoke, I still feel I can contribute….so this is today…the weather is perfect…we could have gone boating but thought what the hell, let’s go walking instead…those are the choices you get when you boat somewhere where the weather is better
