Apologies in advance for this coming across as a moaning thread, but with a typical bank holiday forecasted for this Easter weekend, costs of everything boat related and non boat related increasing at a crazy rate, am I the only one who is struggling to drum up enthusiasm for the season ahead. I know it's been a long old wet winter, but usually at this stage of the year, I'm enthused and raring to get the boat looking her best, and excited for the season ahead. Currently I feel like I need a kick up the arse to get motivated and get my mojo back 😄

My recent purchase of a boat requiring a small amount of work has been going on for 3 months as the amount of work has practicably doubled and costing even more due to previous "hidden" hull repairs that have only come to light as other work has been carried out. I was hoping to be afloat for Easter but that won't happen.

Still a lot of work to do but the wet winter has delayed works everywhere unless in a shed. Once afloat and I can use the boat the many small jobs left can be picked off ....

I had my boat lifted ashore on 9th March and had some very pleasant weather days of maintenance work . Avoided the less pleasant weather days. . On Friday 27th March re-launched and spring cleaning the interior is now in progress .
Engines are serviced and ready to go.
No lack of enthusiasm on my part.
The only issue at Easter weekend being the weather forecast which from Saturday onwards looks uncomfortably windy.
However I am retired now so bank holidays are like any other day. :)

So, all fairly normal for boat ownership, then? 😁

I am very much looking forward to take her out to the yard next week (I have guests this weekend) and do all the maintenance work required for the season. Got all my cleaning and ceramic stuff ready and some new cleaning and polishing toys Santa brought me. Mechanic already booked for the week after to service the outboards and I should be back in the water within 3 weeks.

Agree with Bouba, somewhere warmer does help. We did years in the UK, but got sick of the weather, went to the med in 2017 and have loved it. It does not need to be more expensive than the UK, and true, I do miss being able to pop down for a few hours on a whim, but the virtual guaranteed weather for weeks on end does make up for it. Also, we are not compelled to drop everything and spend it on the boat if there is a rare UK good weather weekend.

Craned in this breezy morning. Hopefully the start of another good season, but I gave up sorting things out after 2 hours of bouncing around the pontoon! Try again tomorrow.

Bought a Nimbus in February and brought it from Poole to the Dart. Whilst that went fine despite the one mile visibility, the gas system needed work, now done. But we are having problems with the heads and holding tank, so we can't go anywhere at the moment, and sourcing/fitting new wiper motors. One had been flagged up in the survey but the other one seized when we tried it.

We are on a river mooring and getting to the boat by dinghy needs the tide to cooperate so there is enough water to launch and recover it. When the tide is right it keeps blowing a hoolie so we can't go.

Oh the joys of boat ownership. Messing about on the water, closely followed by at some point repairing the toilet. We've all been there 👍

My plan which is the same every winter, is to use the boat and come out when everybody has just launched for the season, then after a few weeks, back in to enjoy the summer. This time due to weather and personal commitments, hardly did any boating until the weekend before last, feeling a bit dismayed, my enthusiasm returned, a whole weekend of sun and mirror calm sea. A weekend felt like a week away. In my experience, the easter break never plays ball weather wise, so never plan anything.

Booked to go into St Kats but they are could accomodate any other club members so have cancelled and going up above the lock to the non tidal bit of the river .
The wind can do what it likes now.
10 or so boats were already going up to Allington and suspect we may well be joined by several other boats which were supposed to be going up to Burnham on Crouch over Easter .
Have been up the Essex coast before this early in the year, hiding in the cabin with the"eber" on full blast and watching the sleet slide down the windows does tend to lose its attractions sometimes. ?

Never been more up for getting down to our boat, even to just spend time on it, unfortunately not been able to get out due to serious health problems since Xmas , luckily got good friends and marine to keep an eye on it, but bit of inclement weather has never stopped us enjoying boating

Ahhh, Allington was one of my favourite places to go when I was based in the Medway. I suspect that crossing the estuary this weekend would be a bit of a challenge so good call cancelling that one.
