Two things ....

Yer - but I can't shake my fist at everyone now can I .... ;)

How about getting a paintball gun and shooting at the blighters if they get too close? Might discourage them from doing it again if they have to clean green and purple splodges off the gelcoat when they get back to the marina. You can always say that you were doing target practice when they strayed across your line of fire.

Yeah, but next time it might be you who gets the paint!

Its wasn't you who anchored so close to me at the weekend that I could smell the distinct sail-boat cabin smell (damp mouldy coffin velour) was it , then complained my generator was noisy

I wouldn't dream of passing only 5 m from another boat at 20 knots - I've been the recipient of that kind of thoughtlessness too many times in the past to do it to someone else. It was when someone in a 20' ski boat passed about 3 metres off my stern at around 30 knots last time that I came up with the idea of the paintball gun.

I like that idea ... but will I be liable for prosecution if I "miss" and get the helmsman instead?! :o

It would be an "oops" situation and his fault for getting too close. No fair-minded copper/harbour master would do more than caution you. Hitting the helmsman would be even more incentive for him to stay well off next time.

Yesterday at Studland there was a yottie who had a loud hailer and every time a jet skier approached his boat he shouted "Go away" at them.

I agree, 20 knots and five metres is not on.

But spraying with paint is liable to get you a slap, and lets face it. If they are happy to do the 20 knots that near they are going to be the sort to land you one without hesitation!

Hmm - loud hailer and shouting "Go Away" at jetskis sounds a bit too much like hard work ... bother that for a game of soldiers ...

How about a garotting wire between two anchored vessels? ;)

We were in Newton Creek for a while, I have some interesting photos of a lovely 32ft boat sailing through the crowded anchorage but I leave the Victor Medrew impersonations to you

:D

Should've hung around - as we came in mid afternoon .... under engine ... I would've sailed in however, 1 - there was not enough wind, 2 - I wanted some hot water to wash up the lunch stuff....

Did watch an oppy sail through ...

and then some motoring boats going rather quickly through the (as you say) crowded anchorage where kids were in swimming ... kids were quite noisy but it didn't last too long ...

and the Mobo on the mooring closest to us did run his generator early evening - but then went off to the pub (well - away in the tender for quite a few hours) so all was quiet(ish) again ...

my choice - if I wanted a peaceful anchorage I wouldn't have gone to Newtown Creek on a sunny weekend with neaps tide on one of the first few weekends of excellent weather ...

Yes its a good way to charge the batteries, DS, laptop, water scooter and get hot water without the iterating drone, a bit of a cheek if he left it running all the time he was at the pub
We tend to just put a 2 L of petrol in it so it stops itself after an hour or two.

Not meant as a serious post.

I assumed he was probably cooking dinner as it was about the right sort of time ... to be fair it was a quite quiet installation - just a burble of exhaust - there was more noise from the Oyster Catchers and the Geese who did a low level fly-through the next morning!

The sort of little oik that is likely to come back for more like that, is likely to turn tail and run when I get up out of my seat to confront them.

Seriously though, my posting was meant tongue-in-cheek as the product of my reverie while swabbing out the cockpit and seats when we were subjected to a close fast flypast not too long ago, and I was daydreaming about how to get my own back.

Think we all do the day dreaming bit in that situation. :D
