Just about to go for a quick run out and a somewhat flustered young man wanders into clubhouse and pleads for help. His engine has stopped and he has managed to drop anchor and get ashore fortunately not far from RCC.Tide is running very strongly and wind was picking up.
We manage to get club launch under way and eventually find he has drifted down alongside a club boat.We tow him round to the public pier and secure him alongside. The boat is a bit less than immaculate and has 3 chaps on boat, not much sign of ropes/lifejackets or fenders let alone radio or emergency kit on this 20ft cruiser.
He apparently was on his way round to the Thames.
Returning back up from a short run about, member of our crew spots a tiny jet rib of some sort drifting out with the tide around the forts, obviously in trouble.
We go across to see whats going on and find 2 couples squeezed into this little rib, no obvious lifejackets, radio or anything else.Clothing best described as smart casual and ideal for the club bar was the order of the day. They must have been freezing.
Did offer to get them aboard but they elected to remain in their small craft.
A long slow tow back to MDL Chatham.
Bet somebody got real ear bending once safely ashore . :)
