yep, thats why I said to ignore - I'm not entirely sure there is even a problem here at this stage. Until you can fully test the engines under decent load, there is no point in worrying about it .

Maybe (if I could be bothered) - I might remove the thermostats and put them in a pan of boiling water and check that they correctly open and close at the temperatures they are supposed to, but thats as far as I would go , and only because this is an easy test.

That makes me feel safe now. So my engines are not having big trouble. Looks like only need to check or replace the starboard (60 C one) thermostat. Thank you very much for all of you!

If the thermostats haven’t been changed for a decade or two, replace them anyway as a matter of preventative maintenance.
 
Ok. I am learning how to remove it. Looks quite complicated. Need to remove a lot of parts to get to the thermostat. The number 28 item is the thermostat in the picture.
