my boat has been parked on the hard for 6 months when it came out of the water the steering was fine. It has volvo 290 dp's with power steering. I know the wheel will be stiff to move without the power assistance... however the wheel is fixed firmly and wont budge in either direction something is seized.

I need to get the drives serviced anyway, is it likely that the one or other of the steering yokes has seized?? do I need to pull the engines to tackle this??

Hi

I have removed the steering yokes on a S28 with no problem, apart from getting to the 5/32 allen key on the steering arm inside the boat, but basically not a problem.

Is there not any movement at all when you wiggle the outdrives?

I would be tempted to get the grease gun on the grease points inside on the steering yoke shaft (it's the one you grease as part of the regular servicing) I do mind about every 6-8 weeks. If it is still stiff then maybe start thinking about taking it apart but I check everything else first, if needbe start the engine up so you have the power steering working.

Just out of interest what boat are we talking about, apart from yours of course.

It's very unlikely that the upper pivot has seized (the one you grease to keep water out). Focus on the lower pivot point (outside) on each outdrive with WD40.
If just one has seized, disconnecting the tie rod inside will enable you to wiggle them independantly. They should be movable with arm-power alone.
