I declare that henceforth all motorsailers shall be known as Ragpots....an if anyone wants to argue I'll set the dogs on em - the big un'll lick you to death and the little un'll give you a good suck!

mtb- why are twins better for high speed : everything I've read about twin outboards says you get slightly less speed , due to the drag of two legs .Assuming the same total power output of course.
You just answered your own Question,
It will generally be more out put ,any way this is about inboards !! not high speed out boards .
Also this is of course my own opinion

How far do you go, with out another boat just for spares !!, I jest
Your right, I suppose I could have said no one with half a brain would go to sea with out knowing their engine is ok, but then what about those who don't have a clue !!
THEY SHOULD NOT BE THERE
That's what I think any one can understand the basics re engines its easy to find out, any library will have plenty of books that cover mechanics .
Actually I think it goes along with a post I put up a while ago re people who obviously have had to earn the money to buy a boat then pay right over the odds to get it looked after, that said they are generally quite intelligent and surely are capable of checking their engine for signs of problems .
Is it time for the RNLI to have the power to actually fine or charge when some one has obviously had total disregard for the maintenance of their own boat ,I agree re if you pay the yard to do it and they don't but, again its your boat your life and possibly others put at risk by negligence of the owner to maintain his boat .A little like Health and Safety ,you are liable for your own safety as well as others
Wonder how many that gets going.
If some one with out any knowledge at all goes on a one day engine course he/she will come away with certainly the basics and enough confidence to know then, when they are being ripped off, surely worth it just to know you have got what you paid for when you ask the yard to do a service.
I encourage my boys to know what every thing is and does on the boat so that if some thing went wrong they could cope ,I have done that for every boat we have had ,if people did the same with family or even friends that went on the boat things would be a lot safer .My sons tell me off if they see me doing some thing I shouldn't ,which is as it should be.
I'm out at the weekend out past Skeggy or Wells depending on the fishing
Bet I break down now !!! lol
