Twin Engine Handling - Question From a Newby

If I'm driving a boat close quarters, and I drive lots of different boats on a regular basis, and it has a bow thruster, I do not hesitate to use it. It's a tool and an easy one to use at that. It makes life easier. I can get up off my ar$e and turn the telly over manually or I can use the remote. It's the same sort of thing. Can I drive a boat without a bow thruster? Absolutely I can. Would I rather have one than not? Yes. Don't always assume someone using a bow thruster is inept.

I feel there is a bit of bow thruster envy going on here :D

We have 2 engines a bow thruster and a stern thruster (and a remote so we could stand on the bank and steer it without even being onboard)

Just use whatever needs using at the time.

To OP, when we first bought the boat I watched loads of videos on youtube which were useful. We do mainly use the engines but sometimes when manoeuvring in our restricted marina with the wind and tide doing their own thing the thruster saves the day.

Although the weather wasn't brilliant yesterday we took our Birchwood 37 up to Windsor. I tried the procedure described by 'No Regrets', steering into the bank while putting the outboard engine into reverse and bankside engine into forward gear, and it worked brilliantly, the boat moved away roughly a 45 deg angle without dragging along the bank.

Again many thanks for the very useful advice from the members of this extremely helpful community.
